Title: Bloody mice again
Post by: Jimbob on 14 September 2007, 13:52:18
Just had a call from the Mrs, overnight mice have totally destroyed the contents of a kitchen cupboard.

All packet stuff and all the baby food :(

Thought I'd got rid of em all but they are back.

Traps out again, and try and mouse proof the cupboard.

Gonna research these electronic gizmo ones as well, but as we have other pets not sure of their suitability
(Aquarium and a cat in the house, Gineau pigs and a pond outside.)

Well our mouse has a dodgy lead!

Saw a rodent version in the garden earlier this week!

Contact your local councils pest control - ours was free to get rid of rats

did think about that, but dont want poisons.
Dont like poison in the house, or dead mice rotting where I cant get them,

so its little nippers or a repellent

Well the obvious one is.....

Change the useless cat for a more effective one!

As for mice trouble.....if you have had one then you will get more in whih case you should always have traps out.

Bait the traps with chocolate. Mice go daft for the stuff. When we started having problems with the little devils got to a point that we were painting nail varnish on their tails as we were convinced they were the same mice that came back. Sure enough they were. Caught out stupid big yellow Lab bringing in the mice by holding them by their tails and letting them go in the house.

Now we take them at least 200 yds away and release them there. I know that we could just put them out of their miserable lives but we are an animal friendly family.

Rats on the other hand are a differant story, even the dog does not like them, they get a good dose of lead poisioning. :'(

The cat is bloody useless, although he was going mad in the night, could obviously hear them, but couldnt get to them
although saying that, he can only catch a mouse, if its already dead in a trap!  How pleased he looked!

You should have had our old black tom, before he died of old age.

He'd catch anything. He used to eat the mice that he caught, but didn't
like the heads. So we'd be forever finding mouse heads around the
house.   :(
We've heard of the Mafia and horse heads, so we reckoned he must of
been a member of some kind of Cat Mafia and was leaving little
warnings of what would happen if we didn't toe the line.  ;D

He once, I kid you not, dragged in a huge, live, screaming crow!
It was 3 times the size of him! He just sat there, looking pleased
with himself, as if he was saying, "There we are human slaves, how
do you like my little present to you", whilst SWAMBO ran around covering
her head in case the crow got tangled up in her hair as it squawked and
flapped around the house.

Took us ages to get the bloody thing out again!

Your mice would have packed their suitcases at the first sight of him.  :)

So, smack the cat over the head with a shovel and use the meat as bait.....that way it might serve a purpose.....

Or get a cat from my back garden, seems to be plenty of them and there all nice and clean  ;)

We had the same problem 5-6 months ago... The missus went out and bought a JML thingy that plugs in the wall and "creates a force field" which I thought was a waste of £20 but break me! it worked!!!

Available from wilkos I think?

We had the same problem here. We looked at other options but didn't want anything pet unfriendly, dangerous to children or the other option of poisoned creatures crawling off somewhere to suffer, die and stink. What we settled on is a simple, easy to use but effective, durable enclosed wooden trap. End of mouse problem. It is actually two traps - a sort of his and hers!

I don't know how to post a photo on here.

We have just bought a two berth rat version for the mother in law (no gags pls) for £9.50 equivalent. The mice ones are cheaper.

If anyone is interested in either send me a PM and I'll get some info on Post and Packing and a price for the mice ones.

If you don't kill them they multiply and they come back if you release them nearby.

cos i live in a large farming county i get call outs to a few domestic appliances where the local rodents have decided to get warm and hop onto the machine filter/supressor shorting out the terminals and getting fried.
we rarely tell the female customers what the fault was otherwise they will not go into the kitchen afterwards!!!!
the little buggers like to gnaw on the wiring aswell, and like to poo in a nice warm place..............

Cat : 0, none, not 1, not even a dead one attacted to a trap :(

Had a kind offer from Mark off giving him the dunking treatment :)
