Title: Installing rear dampers
Post by: Paul M on 24 May 2007, 14:05:25
I've ordered a pair of rear dampers which will hopefully be here by the weekend so I can fit them then. Are there any special tools or tricks I need beforehand? I will be doing the job at my folks' so have the usual ramps, axle stands, sockets, spring compressors, big-ass steel mallet, angle grinder etc.

Normally I wouldn't tackle a job like this... but after my success fixing the stripped plug thread and doing my cam gaskets etc I'm feeling a little more confident :O

Cheers.

Nought special on rear shocks. Spring compressors not required. Just undo top and bottom bolts, and change over.

Though the bottom bolt may be a sod...

It might be worth spraying the bottom bolts with plusgas or similar a few times in advance of doing the job :y

Cool cheers, will ask my old man to give them a spray as I won't be there until the weekend. What is plusgas, will WD-40 or similar do?

wd40 will help in absence of anything better...  ...wd40 isn't the best pentrating oil out there...

I think the stuff my dad has is Fospro or something along those lines, same uses but I've no idea if it's better or worse.

Fospro isn't a pentrating oil, its a water disperser iirc...
