I replaced the white bushes on my 94 Omega about a month ago and was really pleased it stopped the cracking noise that I'd had as long as I've owned the car.
However, this morning I noticed its returned again (just drivers side) :( :(
I don't see any sign of physical cracking. Should I still go for the reinforcing plates and will they help? or does the check strap itself need replacing?
Cheers,
Ian

HI, reinforcing plates will only work if the bracket is still secured to the inner and outer door skins. I had to repair mine last weekend, the bracket had broken away from the inner door skin. I left the check strap connected so that I could use force on the door to realign the bracket, I removed the door card and speaker, then pushed the door open until the bracket was in position, then I drilled through the inner door skin and bracket at the top end of the bracket, using a 6.5mm drill bit, (the bracket is about two inches high, so there is enough room to drill a hole without interfering with the check strap mechanism) and fitted a 6mm bolt from the outside and put the nut on the inside of the door, very fiddly but do-able with patience. Then I drilled a smaller hole at the bottom of the bracket and fitted a substantial self tapping screw, greased the check strap and put the door card back on, result no more crack of doom and bracket is as solid as a rock. Hope this helps :y

:D something I need to do as well, just remember to clean off all the old grease first and slap on plenty of new and all will be silent. :y
