Title: Rattle
Post by: pete1666 on 29 May 2007, 23:04:17
Hi, ive had a rattle since i had my car and my brother inlaw who had the car
before had it too, its been through at least 2 MOT`s its been in the garage,
but no one could find it, it was coming from the  front passenger side, it
sounded like a socket bar.

I have just found a piece of spring inside the front spring, it looks
like its been there for a long time, will have a look in the light to see
if it is part of my spring.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Cheers Pete

Sounds like the bottom turn of the spring has snapped off. Its an MoT fail so dont leave it till MoT is due.
btw, you should change springs in pairs, prices arnt too bad on fleabay. If youre feeling flush you could treat it to a pair of front shocks at the same time as you have to remove them to change the springs.

Think you have been lucky that MOT tester did not notice end broken off your spring, as Matchless says it is an MOT failure, just recently had the very same thing happen on a Renault clit of which I replaced both springs as the other one looked like it was on the verge of going and as has been said it would be wise to replace both of the springs due to sag etc. of the old ones.
