been asked the question, need to fit one, got thermo but don't know where it goes, got booked in a garage but would like to know.
(this woman knows nowt)
-
What engine???
-
2.5 v6 cd
-
You can't see it because its underneath the Plenum.
Its hard to describe but level with the front of the Cam Covers, and about centre of them both.... If that makes any sense...
Haven't you got a member of the forum close to ya who could help??
-
Yep there a lot of undoing to get to the thermostat. But apart from that its easy enough to do.
Off with the plenum etc and down between the two heads ( the valley) next to the oil cooler on the V6.
Hope this helps
-
Yep thanks guys, just like a little no how. Cannot thank you guys enough.
I posted a help in my area but nothing, see a number of omega's around but musn't be a member. So no help gotta do it alone :'(

If one of the guys can put an arrow on this picture be most grateful as i can't do it YET ;D

make sure you take new seal for thermostat and new bolts too so they fit them....
incedently why a new thermostat - whats the symptoms?
-
every garage tells me different.
the symptoms
In traffic (idle) the temperature goes through the roof 100 + to red. The fans do kick in but not until touching red
this morning went into red light came on. no fans kicked in. Bad smell of oil a smoke from bonnet.
I have purchased a thermostat i though wasn't bad at £24 but looks like either a heat sensor or a fan switch.
Haven't checked through fuse box for all just not had the time (demanding children - hubby)
-
Not the thermostat.
Could be temp switch but not convinced.
Check radiator is hot all over as blocked rad is a possibility.
Also possible water pump failure.
-
not the rad had that checked no blockage at all :-[
-
agree with Dave...when was water pump last done?
-
got no service history at all
-
how many miles has it done?
-
61000, was told my garage that it had had the cam belt done at last MOT
-
beware of garages promising cambelts and tensioners being done...unless they can prove it or have a copy invoice....and if they cant id be getting that, and the water pump done.
-
Unfortuneately they do not do the sensibly thing and replace the Water Pump automatically while it is all stripped down to do the Timing Belt. Great pity because the Pump is only about £25 but it means a Major strip down to do it.Wishing you the Best and Hope it has been done because if it does leak it ruins the Timing Belt and Adjuster and can lead to Major Engine Damage!!!
-
Could you not come to the lakes meet, there will be loads of people dying to get under the bonnet of everyones car :y
You would get a proper job done at the price of your parts ;)
Oh and a can of Beer ;D
-
Just a thought after reading your other thread. Are you talking about the thermostat that controls the electric cooling fan or the thermostat controlling water flow to the radiator?
The fan thermostat is below the top radiator hose on the passenger side of the radiator, and much easier to get to.

after 3 garages told me it was the thermo turned out it's the water pump as most of you said, i did tell a local garage this, he is fitting it Tuesday. Any ideas where it is and how long should it take. the guy charges £20 hr as he does it after hours?
;D

I could change a V6 water pump in less than an hour
-
fast worker eh? haha thanks for that will keep that in mind
-
fast worker eh?
And then some...
Not very quick at working on cars though ;) ;D
Seriously though, if someone quotes any more than 2 hours to change this water pump, they're either not competent enough, or are after the ££ :)

cheer hun, i really do appreciate it
