1) Any ECU light on the dash, does it light when the ignition is first turned on adn then go off once the engine fires....
2) If no ECU light then its either an air leak (check all inlet ducting carefully) or igniton system.....so pull a few plug leads off and check for oil in the plug wells as a starter for ten...
-
ecu light if that the engine light then yer it comes on then goes off will have to see if i can get a set off plugs and try to fit them
-
Ok if the EM light (the orange one on the dash) comes on, then it is storing a fault (or 2).
First let's find out what they are...

and this will tell you what the code means

Do the check and report back before you do anything else.

my money is on the auto box. :(
-
the light only comes on when ignition is turned on then when u start the car it goes off thought that was normal to show the light works
-
dose the light flase like mine done just before i got the famous crank sensor replaced
-
nope no flashing

Ok, so let's get a detailed description of the problem.
1. How is it to start. Does it start first time?
2. Does it idle smoothly?
3. When driving does it deliver power smoothly to a certain point then get "juddery"?
Does it cruise ok, but then judder when you put your foot down?
Say for instance you are cruising along at 40-50mph then you put your foot down to accelerate, does it almost hold back and struggle to pick up speed?
4. Does the EM (orange) light come on at all when driving?
-
gearbox, gearbox. Did I mention gearbox?

1. How is it to start. Does it start first time?
A. yep

3. When driving does it deliver power smoothly to a certain point then get "juddery"?
A. in the morning ya can put ya foot down and it deliver's smoth but then it warms up and judders all the time while pulling
Does it cruise ok, but then judder when you put your foot down?
A. at low speed if just touching pedel feels fine put foot down and juddering starts
Say for instance you are cruising along at 40-50mph then you put your foot down to accelerate, does it almost hold back and struggle to pick up speed?
A. yep have to bk of throttle and slowly build speed
4. Does the EM (orange) light come on at all when driving?

As Mark said at the top of the thread..... that will be the DIS pack failing then. :)
-
sounds expensive is there a way to test before buying and how hard is it to do
-

Shut it you tart.....we want to diagnose it properly.....

Do check the leads for damage and oil etc first......
Not to pricey new, about 90 quid for a DIS......dont by leads from Vx though, very expensive!
-
Sorry to hijack, in a small way, but what does DIS actually stand for?
-
DIS - Distributor-less Ignition System.....one coil fires two plugs...
-
Just thinking back to dougal's probs, could that be the source of his woes? Remember the guy whose car piled in after overtaking someone...
-
No, his is much more likely to be exhaust (even if Mark completely disagrees! ;))

I'm sure i read through pages and pages of this. Wasn't it a dodgy non GM cat that was the cause?
-
so how do i get it off any one got a pic by pic destruction on how to do it :question
do i need it of to no which one i need to get :question
still confusing to me as when cold its fine. would rather trust u lot than the local V stealer as when my dad has had troubs they have cost him ££££££££ changine sensers that did not need doing

It should idle fine if that was the case when warm (because it does when cold on a rich mixture) and if completely blocked would have blown an air injection pipe by now........

changed plugs and leads today seems to b running fine now so not dis pack thank f***
