while taking apart to do plugs and leads found a 3 pin plug not connected to anything any one no what its for it was hanging around near dis pack

A stab in the dark here, BUT often on the V6 when people change crank sensors, they cut the old wire rather than completely removing it, often leaving a strange plug behind...

3 pin plug near the DIS pack.... as James says very likely to be an old crank sensor connector.

The original wiring is very hard to get out so people leave them there.

Yep - I had one there too which was old crank sensor.  Reliable, aren't they?  ;D
