Title: Exhaust advice please........
Post by: bob.dent on 05 June 2007, 15:06:56
I'm very soon going to need a new exhaust backbox with twin tailpipes for the new MV6 Estate. TD has kindly offered to get a genuine VX one on his TC and could bring it to the Lakes but I was wondering if I would be any better off going to one of the cheaper national exhaust centres such as Formula 1 or Kwik Fit and having it supplied anf fitted.

If I got the VX one via TD I'm still going to have to pay my local garage to fit it, so any thoughts or recommendations as to my best options?

Cheers, Bob.

Bob does it need to be twin outlet, as i have a box from a 2.5 estate that was only on my car for about 4 months,  the pipes will need to be cleaned up of some exhuste past but ithat will be fairly easy. :y

Bob, I promise you, if you don't get the genuine Vx system, you will regret it every single time you drive the car!!

Thanks for the offer Gary - much appreciated. :y It would have to be twin tailpipes though - It's a 3.2 MV6 and although I'm not sure if there's any technical reason for it (I'm sure one of our resident experts would be able to confirm) I don't think it would look right cosmetically as the Irmscher rear bumper has a cut-out for twin tail pipes. Look forward to seeing you at he Lakes. :y

Cheers

Bob

Why is this Dave? Is this because non-genuine one's are crap quality or are there other reasons? :-?

Non-gen ones are crap.....

And the one fitted on my V plate was done by Formula 1 and its bloody awful, the exhaust is crap and the quality of fitting is worse....

We might be able to pop a new one on for you whilst at the lakes.......do we have power anywhere?

The original system on my '98 lasted 6 years before replacement.  I wouldn't expect that with a non original so well worth the premium for the Vx one.  I think exhausts are on trade club and don't cost that much more than KF etc, although you need to pay someone to fit it.

Don't even think of ruining that car by putting crap exhaust on. Get a genuine (may have to be ordered, so get it soon) one.

Pattern exhausts are noisy (and not even nice noise), and don't last.

I have power hookup in th tent, but not sure what the rating is...

I did PM Bob, to ask about it.....but as he hasnt....may not have got my PM yet....does the 3.0 estate box p/n 9157105 fit a 3.2 estate? ......coz 3.2 exhausts arent mentioned in the 'book' ?

Dont want to go getting him the wrong one!

:o Don't get a non-vx one Bob, I did 10 months ago and have just had to get them to change the centre section under the guarantee as the centre box baffles had started to go, think the tailpipe is going too, another claim.  The extra sound is annoying after a while too, raspy and it resonates too.

Sites are usually 10 amp hookups.

OK, a genuine VX is the one to get then - thanks for all the advice guys :y

Can anyone confirm TD's question above? If this is the correct one I'll get TD to order it and bring to Lakes if there's sufficient time.
