Is 220 miles per tank reasonable for combo driving, no heavy stuff either in the car or on the pedal. In other words we can only get 220 miles per tank no matter what we try, could there be a sensor busted or similar that could explain this or is this the best it can do?

sounds pretty poor mpg ,is this round town or motorway,i can do about 80-85 miles on £10 on motorway but round town only get 50-60 miles from £10,getting 40 mpg - 45mpg ish on motorway only about 25 mpg to 30 mpg round town,not bad for a car thats covered nearly 158 thousand miles :y

75 litre tank about £75 to fill ,i get about 375-450miles to a tank round town,motor way about 600-640 miles on a full tank if traffic is smooth :y

You don't say what engine, gearbox etc but it looks pretty poor to me (don't rule out some other reason for poor fuel consumption such as brakes binding , tyres under inflated etc)
I get about 35 mpg average driving bit of town, bit of motorway type thing.
You'd probably get a bit less in an auto and the 3.0 3.2 is a bit more thirsty

These figures are from the 'Range' display on the MID, not real0life mileage, but:
When I feel-up after a long motorway drive the Range is showing as 400+, on one occasion is actually showed 500.
After mixed driving it will show high 300+ e.g. 370.
After slow city driving it will show 300 or less, e.g. 270.
I don't remember ever seeing show less then 270 for a full tank regardless of driving conditions.
The long term average consumption is 22-24 mpg for mixed driving.
The engine is 2.6 with autobox, had a 2.5 before and it was pretty much the same.

depends on engine and box - i drive a 3.0 auto and i'm lucky if i average 18mpg (4.5 miles across town to work and back)
On a run it'll do 29-30mpg i think the best i ever got was 32mpg (really chuffed :y !!)
The moral of this story is not to drive a 1.8 ton barge with 225mm tyres and a greedy 3litre v6 on a rubbish auto box around town (i still love it though !!) LOL

I normally get 340 - 400 miles per tank, but little 'big city' driving for me. FC (accurately) reads 25.0 - 25.4 most of the time in my 3.0l auto

i have a 3.0 auto, lucky to get 220 miles for my main use which is all city stop start stuff. Average 16.8-19.0 on last tank. Consumption improved after DIS pack failed & was replaced, but has since dropped off again. Car is regularly serviced as well plugs last done 12k ago. Seems same regardless of driving style.

Mine is a 2.0 16v, 1994, done 155,000 now, still going at avg 34mpg work n back.
Love the car, someone before i had it has put a cheap exhaust on it though, sounds a bit rough, well it sounds like its got an induction kit on it, which it has'nt.
When it dies i will get a proper vx one on it.

I concur with this my 2.5 auto with mixed driving usually averages 22 - 24 mpg (FC reading)

The model is a 2.5 V6 auto estate, 112K. The computer will say 225 miles range after a fill! This rate of fuel consumption is costing me a bomb. The exhaust gives off a strong petrol smell long after the engine has warmed up, thats not right in my book, what u guys say?

i have just done 560 miles this week in my miggy 500 motorway and the rest round town, my average was 30mpg, this i consider to be average from my 2.5 v6 auto......
I can easily get 450-500 out of a tank on a run

I get an average of 18-19mpg round town and 34mpg on a run out of my 2.5 auto.

It has been suggested to me that the EGR valve should be given a good clean out as this might well be the cause of the high fuel consumption. Does this sound right?

last few weeks i have done a lot of stop start runs round town get about 17/19 mpg but i then used cruise and it went up 20/22 all same type of runs so i use the cruise a lot more now unless i have a chav up my rear end trying to get by then i just floor it and say bye lol
saying that i still think it's under powerd did expect it to b quiker on acceleration but mayby it's me just getting older lol
