Hope someone can advise me here please?
Following my previous long winded repair, I now have my 2.0 Auto 1998 back from the auto electrician running, however after driving her home I found that she is idling around 1400-1800 and wont drop any lower.
Do you think is due to the throttle housing and pipes have not been cleaned properly?? as I did notice when I was looking for the elctrical problem that it was rather oily inside the throttle housing near the b/fly.
Would you recommend removing and cleaning?? as MOT is due on Monday and that appears to be the only fault now.

Cleaning the throttle housing and butterfly can only be a good thing, as is cleaing the idle control valve. Not sure where it is on the 2 litre, but a search of some of the threads here should help. No doubt someone will be along soon to advise. :y

Yes, clean the breathers, idle valve (bolted to the side of the throttle body) and the throttle body.
Also check that the throttle butterfly fully closes.....

First have a look to see if the butterfly flap closes fully, if not then someone could have put something like a cable tie as with mine around the bottom of the throttle cable to keep it open, have a good look around that area. Other wise re adjust the butterfly if needed until fully closed. If this dosent solve then clean out throttle body,ICV, and all the pipes (you might need some gaskets for the TB and ICV) also big pipe at back right of cam cover, if it goes into a flame trap, also clean this out, plenty of carb cleaner, then let it dry out. When you’ve got the throttle body off, polish off all the crap and make sure you clean out the small hole down in the intake manifold, follow the smaller of the two pipes that come from the front left of cam cover, this hole can be solid (small drill bit or stiff wire Just be careful not to damage,it’s a very small hole). The ICV is bolted to the side of the TB, Strip and clean out with carb cleaner, when clean lubricate with a bit of oil

IIRC, Audo Addict did a 2.2 throtlle body clean guide, 2.0l will be similar....

Yes AA’s how too would be a good place to start, taking into account that the 2.2 is a drive by wire and has no ICV.

If none of the above makes a diff (which is unlikely), might be worth checking out the coolant temperature sensor. I've been reading up about these recently, here:

amongst other places. It seems they have an age-related tendency to increase in resistance. This will make the ECU think the engine's colder than it really is, with consequent (unnecessary) mixture enrichment. If hot starting's not as easy as it should be, that would be another clue in this direction.

Fom experience of a vectra i had with the ecoshite engine. A vacuum pipe had come off the back of the throttle housing. it runs to what i have since been led to belive it the fuel purge valve. Pipe missing meant air was being sucked into throttle body & revs soared. After many trips to agents finally got correct pipe & problem vanished.
Pipe is not one of those thin plastic ones but a rubber one about 3-4mm internal diameter. On the omega i would imagine it would be to the rear of the throttle body.

ecoshite engine, its not that bad and besides apart from dissel engines all omega engines are called ecotec ,i agree with most of you,i cleaned my icv out and breathers and solved a lot of idle and accelerating probs,once cleaned though had to back throttle cable right off,had been adjusted to compensate for cutting out :y :y :y

split the icv into 2 parts . they are held together by bolts. Careful as you split it into 2 as a rubber sealing washer sits between them. If you take the part with the electical connections and shake it you may hear the electro slider moving back and forth - probably wont because thats what sticks - Squirt some cleaner into this section give a a shake and pour away cleaner . repeat this until you can hear slider when you shake it.Let dry - good time to clean the other half with the cleaner- . Now put a very small amount of oil into the slider part (a drop or 2 is more than enough) shake to confirm that slider still moves. reassemble the 2 parts - dont forget washer. fasten back to throttle body - if you havent got a new gasket a small smear of grease to gasket should make an air tight seal ( dont tighten too much the as the throttle body is ali and the threads strip easily)

Well Ive removed the throttle housing and all the breather hose and boy were they full of gunk. Once cleaned and replaced revs appeared to drop immediatly and settle down, but had to drop adjuster down as was iddling at 1300 revs. Now set at 650 and appears ok
Going for MOT tomorrow, so fingers crossed it passes its emmision test. One thing I did notice though was that when you put it in gear it snatches unlike it used to. Before it was steady and went when you put your foot down, now it feels like it wants to go off like a ferrari, any suggestions??
