Title: Power Steering Fluid Change ?
Post by: Craig_R on 13 June 2007, 11:20:32
Just Been Out for a slow Drive and the Car was Smooth as a babies bum for abit and then the small vibration returned throught the steering wheel its like you can feel every nook and cranny in the road.

Been thinking I know the power Steering Fluid will not of been changed for a long long time. If this Fluid has degraded over time it might be a factor towards my problem.

How and Where do I drain the old power Steering Fluid Out ? any Photos whould be great  ::)

And Which Power Steering Fluid Should I replace it with and how much gos in ?

Thanks

Craig

I checked the Fluid and its a red colour and very very runny just like water if thats right one thing i did notice was the pipe coming from the PAS res looked alittle yuck like its leaking but the level seemed fine in the bottle it was just over the bottom mark between the two marks infact.

Mine is like that too.

If I remember it is DexronII auto transmission fluid (but please confirm before pouring any in!)

Although the Technical Information System states it should be 1.3 litres of Dex III.......and then adds the following correction as a field remedy (1570)

Quote

Complaint: Oil for Power Steering incorrectly specified in TIS.

Remedy: TIS 2000 indicates that the power steering oil specification for Vivaro is
Dexron III. This is now incorrect.
The original fluid was Dexron III  (PN 90 510 269, Cat-No. 19 40 763) which
was used to service certain power steering and automatic transmission fluids
(ATF).

This oil is no longer available so a new version of oil Dexron III has been
specified for the affected ATF (PN 93 160 372, Cat-No. 19 40 712) however
this oil is not compatible with power steering systems and should not be
used for this function because this may result in leakages.

To service the power steering system the oil now specified has reverted back
to Dexron II (PN 90 350 342, Cat-No. 19 40 700).

This should prevent any confusion when trying to select the correct oil for
the correct application.

NOTE: This information is valid for all models except Sintra (partnumber
90 513 486, Cat: 19 40 707) and Astra-G/Zafira/Vectra-C/Signum (partnumber
93 160 458, Cat: 19 40 715).
