Had Another look Today at the Steering Box and i think I saw the right part to tweek
Is this what you Tweek on it Circled in Red

Thats it, hold the centre torx bolt still and slaken off the outer locking nut.
Then turn the torx bolt 90 deg clockwise and re-tighten the nut......then see if its any better.
Dont just go tightening it up a few turns as it has some funny affects!

Your the man who knows his stuff mark just checking as Matchless said rotate clockwise only 1/16th or 1/8th, so its ok to turn it 1/4 or 90degs clockwise.
What happens if its over turned ?

You get an interesting effect whereby you turn the steering wheel and it stays turned .....even when moving...

I have noticed that if I rock the steering wheel on my car it feels like there is a fairly alarming amount of play with the engine stopped but it disappears when the engine is started (could be that it's no longer possible to feel it due to the PAS, of course).
Car drives OK. No excessive wandering, etc.
Just wondering if these are symptoms of play in the box (or elsewhere, of course) or if it's normal.

How Bizarre - I noticed exactly the same thing yesterday on mine, so either we both have a similar wear problem or its normal.

Mine has same play when engine off. Seemed to get worse to me when car reached about 20,000 miles
took it back under warranty tester stated normal amount of play with engine off, had a row saying why did it change after 20k then tried 6 cars on forecourt all the same and one only had 4000 miles on clock.
Now done 80k and still the same with al;l original components.

You will get some play or lost motion when the engine is off, I suspect the hydraulic pressure closes up any gaps between the chain of balls and the nut. Hope to take a (scrap) one apart someday to find out how it works.

Exactly. I'm used to rack and pinion systems and this much play in a rack would prompt me not to drive it! However, I don't have a picture in my mind of how a recirculating ball system works so, as you say, maybe the hydraulic pressure tightens it up.

What ever you do DO NOT ADJUST WITH ENGINE ON and make sure the steering wheel is exactly in straight ahead position avery small turn makes a vast difference
