Title: Heat sensors, I think
Post by: omegalyn on 13 June 2007, 11:34:21
Hi there all.
After good advice on here on a over heating prob, can anyone tell me what the two sensors are for, that are located on the right hand side of the rad, (looking from the front) one under the main pipe and one at the bottom. I drive 1996 2.0 (X20XEV Ecotec) auto. I think they are heat sensors for the fans, but why are there two? I think this model only has one phase fans, so they only come on at one preditermind temp, but I could be wrong.
Thanks
Lyn

I'm not familiar with the 4-pots but I'm sure the management and gauge sensors will be on the engine itself rather than the rad. The water at the bottom of the rad. will have been cooled considerably and won't reflect true engine temperature. I'm not sure what the switch at the bottom does. At a guess it might disable the air con if the rad. is struggling but that's a total guess.
