Title: Water leak
Post by: JezInBrum on 15 June 2007, 17:26:22
hi, after a few pointers please?
I have a 1996 Saloon. When ever it rains i have noticed that the padding on the underside of the dash panel is getting wet. I did not so long back have the scuttle off & clear all the crud out of the drains on both sides. It was leaning prior to this & care was teken when refitting it.
I first spotted problem when a fuse blew a year or so ago & noticed a water mark on the lid. Anyway last two times it has rained heavily I have felt water dripping on my right foot. Today was particularly bad, as i came off a round about a load of water poured all over my foot. Looking at position of there water is collecting i am slightly mistyfied as to where it may be coming from, seems to be too far from door aperture for it to be that.
Only things that i can think of are a sunroof drain tube, or the windscreen. As the water is cool it cant be a heatr hose &  i have'nt used the aircon recently.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Jez

Check the rubber along the bottom of the windscreen. I suspect a split along it somewhere.

Thanks for reply. From what i remember it did'nt look to be in the best of condition.
Would it be a case of repacing the rubber because i cannot see a repair being possible, or is the rubber installed when the windscreen is bonded in place?
Out of curiosity does anyone know where the sunroof unit drain tubes do run to please?
Ta

Sure your windscreen isn't cracked as well??   ;)

A sixty quid or so excess and a new rubber seal fitted at the same time as the screen would be a fair remedy, perhaps??

Definately considering that although trying to eliminate all other possibilites. £50-£60 excess for a new screen is good but on top of the recent £350 & now HBV leaking I need to draw the line as to how much money is really worth throwing at this car. MOT due September so considering getting shot rather than doing my usual thing of throwing good money after bad

The rubber at the bottom of the windscreen can be replaced without taking the windscreen out.

I would check for leaks in the scuttle.
