Guys today i did the cam cover gaskets/rubbers on my elite 3.0 (i found passenger cover cracked ,see other post),i also decided to clean out the breathers,i found the breathers to be clean in that there did not seem to be any crud or any blockage in the pipe that feeds the top breathers next to the ecotec bit or anywhere else even the breather box seemed clean with no build up of crud,i did spray carb cleaner through the breathers but only a slight discolouration passed through, then why have the cam gaskets /rubbers failed? i can under stand the cracked cover letting in some oil but the drivers side also had oil in the spark plug wells,do the cam gaskets/rubbers fail ater a long time?maybe go hard with age?.

IT IS POSS THAT THE GASKETS THAT WERE ON THE CAR WERE NOT GEN VX.PATTERN GASKETS ARE CRAP AND DO HARDEN WITH AGE.VX ONES IF CORRECTLY FITTED LAST A LOT LONGER.[ps SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS LOCK] ::) :)

They where original Gm ones that i took off.

Ok mate ,did you fit them?,did they get fitted correctly? :y as the pass side are a p,i,t,b to do and easy to bugger up.

The gaskets do fail with age even if the breathers aren't blocked.
My rubber O-rings were as hard as plastic.
