Title: Headlamp Bulbs
Post by: Bo Bo on 24 August 2006, 00:42:03
Due to shift work I have to do a lot of night driving & my headlights leave a lot to be desired.
I've tried a couple of xenon "upgrades", but to be honest although they looked good from the front, they were actually worse to drive with (espicially the blue ones).
I've done a bit of research & Ring Ultra Xenon seem to come up more than most.
So what's your views, what's the best wattage to go for & should you change the side light bulbs to match?
Cheers

Stick to 50W (not sure if the 80W and 100W are street legal anyway?), but go for the uprated '+50' bright light ones.

Without going into current draw against the size of the wire etc etc I had no problems with my Manta that had 80(85?)/100W lamps in or my last Senator that had 100W in the driving/spot lamps. No problems with the Omega's HID headlights - one of it's redeeming features! (although I might look at 100W in the driving /spots)

I agree....the +50 ones certainly make a difference, to the point where i'm just about happy with them now.
I was going to convert to HID's but its quite involved to do it correctly.

You could of course by a HID kit off ebay.....altho fitting these kits would still be illegal....as the kits ive seen dont make the headlight units auto tilt or have headlamp washers.

Cheers

The '+50' seem to be recommend, to the point that I would use them if I didn't have HIDs  :D

The 'Xenon' upgrade standard bulbs are worthless.

You're right, the Xenon standards are worthless & in the case of the blue ones I tried; actually worse.
I got the 50% brighter bulbs & there is an improvement, not brilliant but much better, although I wouldn't say they're 50% better!
