Title: Back plate
Post by: Tony O on 22 June 2007, 08:34:53
How do you change the back plate to the rear brakes. the anti rattle spring pin has pulled through the hole. can I add something ie: a washer to hold it in place or do I need to change the whole thing.

You have to remove the drive shaft to access a nut inside the back of the hub to release the hub shaft then pull the hub....not easy.

This was a problem on early cars, later ones have the pins inserted through the back plate......I wonder if there is enough metal left to use the later set-up and whether you could get enough room to loosen the back plate bolts enough to get the later pin in without having to remove the hub etc.

Would be worth a try?

Depending on the access you have to the rear, I have used metal self tapping trim clips successfully.

And also welded a specially shaped home made pieces of metal to the front plate, once the brake assemblies are removed to improve access.

Easier than pulling a hub, perhaps, but open to opinion!!

Thanks. I think I'll try to fix in situ, don't fancy taking the drive shaft off. I'll let you know how I get on.
