I've just bought the scantool ELM 327 interface and seems to work ok, my only concern is that when doing a code read I see code; P1781* (using Scantool software) any ideas what it means?, I don't have any eml lights on and tried some other software package and didn't report any error codes, so is it a genuine code?
Cheers Pete

Only 1781 I can find for 2.2 is from automatic gearbox.
Is it a current code, or stored? If stored, clear it, see if it comes back.

it appears to be a current code, but found a definition using Gendan DTC codebank that says: CAN data bus, ECM actual torque signal - malfunction detected. God knows what that means?

The Vx docs say 'CAN bus receives error' - which is normally a spurious on when other error conditions exist. The gearbox and engine (and ABS/TC) all chat over CAN on later cars.
Either way, I didn't think that Scantool.net could read gearbox, only engine? And this is a gearbox code, not engine. Might be worth getting gearbox read, and ABS, if you are concerned, though if you have not symptoms or warnings :-/

Oddly enough just been out for a drive and put tester back on and fault code was now stored instead of just being current, so have cleared the error code and is now no longer there! bit of a strange one as you say I only thought scantool was reading engine only; do you know of any other software that reads Transmission codes with the ELM 327 interface?
Cheers Pete

I have a 2001 Y reg 2.2 CD Omega Automatic, I have the ELM 327 interface and I use the Vauxcheck software from Gendan.
It enables you to read the following ECU's - Engine, Transmission, Immobiliser, ABS.
Excellent bit of kit.
You can also clear codes etc and EML.

Best software that I use is the Vauxcheck and Enginecheck software from the following website.
www.gendan.co.uk
Has saved me a fortune with my Omega as the EML was always coming on until I removed and cleaned the Cam Sensor!

Thanks TB! ;D :)
The Vauxcheck and ELM 327 is excellent for us mere mortals who can't afford the Tech2!
Would love a Tech2 but could buy a new Omega with that sort of Money!!!!!!!
