i pay 149 through AA.

However i get a warranty as well  :y a brilliant thing to have, the only conditions are the car has to have less than 100k on it when you take out the warranty and be less than 10 years old, excess of £25, max per claim £500

they picked up the tab on my ABS ECU, that was £450 odd, or £25 to me

No i am no mechanic, but i watch and learn of you when you do your cars, i do know when a clutch is on its way out by the gears not going in :P

Strangely, when I drove it, the gearbox seemed fine.  But then I mostly only used the first 3 ::)

The gearbox is fine.

It struggles with engaging gears from a standing start, usually when it's been stood for a while.

Once the clutch has had some use it's ok - hence probably why you found it ok (I'd just come 50 miles to you...)

I'm beginning to think it's just a stickly friction plate.

Dead easy job from what I can gather...
