I'm part-owner of this beast  :)

It was used to take part in the 2007 Ramshackle Rally, which is a 4-day road-trip from Calais to Krakow.  We decided to drive back as well, since we had a solid car.

It's a non-timed event, so we stuck to the speed limits and the car didn't give us a single problem in 2,800 miles.  Points are gained from silly challenges, like getting photos with as many countries' police forces as possible.  I'm seriously impressed, and would happily keep it if I didn't already have a company car.  Not a single rattle from the interior - can't say that about any other car I've ever owned.

To explain the paint job, everyone on the rally decorates their cars.  Most buy a few cans of spray (or worse a few tins of dulux) and some furry dice from Halfords.  We decided to do a proper job, filling in the cosmetic rust patches on the rear doors, removing the side-rubbing strips, repairing stone chips, and 2500-grit sanding it all before 4 coats of cellulose paint, followed by more hard work with rubbing compound and meguirs.  It's not perfect, but a better finish than most cars on the road from 1994.  Most of the decals are vinyl stickers, apart from the lightning stripes which we had to spray.  Original wheel trims and grille are in the boot if anyone feels like toning it down a little!

The sun-roof isn't stick-on (as cleverly deduced above!)

Mechanically, all that needed doing to the car before we set off was an oil and filter change, new cabin filter, and and new brake fluid (hadn't been changed in 13 years and we went down a few twisty alpine roads!)  We also persuaded a garage to let us use their hydraulic lift to top up the gear-box oil, but it hardly needed any.

For the purpose of the trip we also fitted a 'knight rider' scanner, but that's now on the registered keeper's 206 :)  There's a YouTube video here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5Dun9YF0aI

Obviously it's not to everyone's taste, but it's certainly a good way of drawing attention to yourself!

Would hate to see it broken for spares after several months of work, but it's for charity so can't be too picky I suppose.

If anyone has any questions, let me know.

i love it, good on you for going the whole hog and putting it together  :y

i would love to have that sat on the drive, finding a use for it could be the stumbling block, it has a promotional use/value and possibly a use within the charity run scene.

It would be a shame to see it broken, i hope you have luck in selling it

Looked like excellent fun at any rate. I've been on a few 50+ car tours in the Westfield and there's nothing like descending on some unsuspecting village for lunch en-mass in a convoy like that!  :y

I think it's great. If it wasn't for these guys, that tractor would probably be in a breakers by now. It hasn't been chavved, just made to look the part in the rally. In my book, they've done well.

Hope they flog it soon and raise loads of cash!  :y
