hi guys
in your opinions, what was the best suspension set up (as in best ride/handling compromise) fitted as standard on the omega estates.
i have previously lowered my car without much success - car always too low, and catching exhaust on speed bumps
also, will facelift suspension parts fit my 1999 car?
thanks, stu

Hi mate i had the same problem,ie dragging the rear box and pipes over speed humps etc, so i put the original rear springs back on, and have just fitted a pair of irmscher rear shocks on the car[ estate ] and it has helped a lot with the ride and handling. :) :y

Mv6 suspension, very slightly lower with slightly harder shocks ;)
-
thanks guys
is that mv6 suspension from facelift or pre-facelift?
also, any idea of the cost for full mv6 suspension?

Remember, pre facelift MV6 rear springs are same as others - the lowering/stiffening is done purely on the shocks...

so, is the suspension better from the facelift mv6, and would it fit my 1999 car?

No, thats not what I'm saying. Its all personal choice. Some people (esp FWD owners) think handling only comes from mega hard suspension. Some think that comfort has to be wallowy. Its personal choice where the 'best compromise' comes in...

I fitted an online autosport lowering kit to the car 6 months ago. I have since had to change the springs back to the originals, as the car was way too low, and one of the rear springs was actually collapsing.
Most on here seem to say that the mv6 set up is the best compromise. What I ideally want is a comfortable ride (given the amount of potholes around here!) , with good handling.
Was the suspension set-up better on the facelifts, and will this fit onto my 1999 Omega?
I checked the cost of mv6 suspension - I was quoted around the £750 mark.....
Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Stu

i really would appreciate any advice or experience anyone has about this..... :y

As TB has hinted at, suspension is a kinda subjective thing. What works for one person may not work for another.....
If you are used to FWD with chunky/torquy engines then stiffer suspension is the accepted norm.
If you like the power delivery of a large mile muncher - Omega, Big Beemer, Range Rover or similar - then softer suspension can be quite acceptable as long as you are experienced enough to set the car up on entry to bends so as to get the best output.
Personally, I like the lazyish suspension on my MV6 as its neither too harsh nor too wallowy. Needs a bit of driver input to ensure it settles into a corner the way I want as opposed to a roller skate on steroids like a hot hatch, but thats where the subjective bit comes in.......

Thank you for all your advice
I do like the power delivery and handling of RWD cars, particularly the Omega.
So, best choice would probably be MV6 suspension.
But was the suspension of the standard facelifts improved over the older model?
I may consider using this set up, as the genuine MV6 parts are quite expensive.
Thanks, Stu

Not sure whether the facelift MV6 is different to prefacelift.
MV6 suspension isn't that expensive - remember its not the same as the Irmscher stuff ;)

Thanks mate,
The price for MV6 shocks and springs from a dealer was around £750
Does this seem about right to you?
Seems quite high to me.....

prefacelift mv6 rear springs are same as other models. shocks around £50 each (TC price). not sure on front springs.

I think the quote I got was for facelift springs/shocks, at TC price.
I am assuming that these would still fit too though...?
You don't happen to have any part numbers for any of these parts do you mate?

cant see facelift being more expensive.... ....no part numbers immediately to hand. I suspect you were quoted Irmscher...

Thanks mate,
I'll double check the prices tomorrow - see if I can get a more realistic price

Full Irmscher kit was only around the £575 mark last month but a set of four springs from Vaux was quoted at over £400 at normal prices so probably close to £750 for a full kit.
LMF had access to the last available Irmscher suspension package for a saloon (should have checked what you were driving before answering) which was being discounted so it may be worth checking with them.
Personally changed over to Eibach springs with standard shocks and it's been okay to dade with no grounding on speed bumps of any kind.

Thanks for the info mate.
I haven't had time to check prices today, will phone the dealers tomorrow.
May also consider the eibach springs - currently have fitted standard springs and bilstein shocks, but not very happy with this....
