Title: HID Bulb on way out?
Post by: Jimbob on 27 June 2007, 07:44:32
Turned on my lights last night, all the way home, thinking the driver side light looks reddish.

Get home, out the car, and yes, the drivers side headlight (HID's) is a purpleish colour.

Turned em off, and on again, comes on white, then fades to pinkish purple.

Is this 'just' a case of needing a new bulb, or something more serious like ballast pack or something else?

Cheers

Also, best to replace in pairs innit, keeps em looking the same, now off to find that thread from ages ago where someone got a pair at a good price from ebay.....

Done a fair bit of searching, looks to be £35-£40 is the cheapest I can get a pair.
Initial cheap ones bumped up with expensive shipping.

So can anyone confirm a bulb should fix this before I shell out my hard earned?
And given the choice, anyone experienced the differences between the 4300K and 6000K

Cheers

I believe the way to check whether its bulb or ballast pack is to swap the bulbs round. A bit of a job but worth it considering the price of a replacement.

Oh, and dont rather fry yourself ;D

Cheers, as its drivers side, its the easier job ( I think).
Be great if I could borrow one to test, save removing the battery, or potentially knackering 2 sets using her bulbs ;)
I've always suspected the bulbs arn't as bright as they should be, so don't mind getting a new set if that solves things.
