Title: What does this mean?
Post by: Golfbuddy on 30 June 2007, 13:50:28
I have just received one of those maintenance manuals adverised on EBay.

Anyway, there are also a lot of step by step maintenance guides in the programme with tech drawings to show you what to do. I was going to clean out my throttle body and breathers, when the rain goes away but the first thing the guide said was:

"Throttle Body, Remove and Install (Y 22 XE, Z 22 XE)

Note:   When removing and installing or replacing the throttle body it is absolutely essential that the adaptation values for the throttle valve in the EE PROM of the engine control unit are deleted using TECH 2".

What does this mean? If I go ahead with this job will I end up with other problems?

It also says this:

"Note:   For engines with throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) it is necessary after replacing the throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) to reprogram it. To do this, switch on the ignition and wait for a minimum period of 10 seconds. During the waiting period, the engine must not be started because this will interrupt the programming operation."

Once again, any ideas??

I don't mean to pee on your bonfire mate, but I'm afraid if you bought this from eBay, and it was only a few quid, it's extremely unlikely to be a genuine copy.

I'm not sure you'll be able to discuss it here

I think that the problem is that it is genuine. When you click 'Help' then 'About' it is copyright General Motors Corp and it certainly looks genuine. Also, you enter the VIN number and it gives details of your car!! I'm not interested in the ODBC interface, it needs hardware keys and the Tech2 to plug into, but the service information section looks helpful. Just a bit worried about some of the notes and warnings.

How much did you pay for it?

£2.89 plus postage so under a fiver total. That's why I bought it, thought that there was so little to lose it was worth a punt.

Copywrite reasons means it cannot be discussed openly, but what you have will work for parts assembly and pictures.

To get the most out of it you would need Tech2 and a subscription from GM
