Just been trying to sort out a fault that has been rearing its ugly head over the last couple of days. When i start the car and put into drive the car is trying to lurch forward. Other times starts and runs o.k.
Cleaned out the oil around the plugs. Changed plugs for new Vauxhall ones. New gasket and sealed. Checked to see if the oil had made its way back around plugs but bone dry. Took off throttle body and cleaned. Also breathers and other pipes.
Started up and ticked over and responded to throttle.
When Mrs. DaveL went to go out in car engine started but revs up at 1500, no throttle response. Auto gearbox check with EML lit. Switched off and on a couple of times and fault still same.
Of course when i tried engine perfect....tried the engine after Mrs Davel left for work and fault came back. Change cam shaft sensor for known good still same. No vacuum pipes off or rubber pipe work leaking.
When the fault comes on there is no response to the throttle just steady revs, am i right in thinking it must be the throttle body or connection to it, remember mine is fly by wire.
Your thoughts would be appreciated and i am sorry for the long story.

I'm really hoping not, but does sound a little like throttle body.... ....I would need to see live data on it, see if throttle requested position and throttle position match :(

Cannot get live data as i believe you cannot paper clip a 2.2 2000 my.Or am i wrong? :-[
Thought you would say something along the line of a throttle body problem so have taken the thing off again. The electrical end connector looked wet. Have cleaned out with WD40 and also took off the cover from the wiper feedback.
Looks as though they are sweeping clean and the throttle snaps back cleanly when opened by hand. Sits slightly open and you can press gently and throttle butterfly closes off. Opens slightly when pressure removed from butterfly.

Live data needs a scanner, whether or not it can be paperclipped (which 2.2 can't)....
Any better since you've dried it out?

I am sure someone else has had this problem with a FBW......but for the life of me i carnt remember who or what cured it :-[
Does it ring any bells guys?

User Rock had similar issue, though that was v6. Cure was new throttle body.

Good news folks, just got back in after fitting the dried out throttle body. Also sprayed the electrical connector that goes into the throttle. Started up at the right tick over but had auto gearbox on mid but no EML. Switched off, swore under my breath, then tried again. Works o.k. and no EML or mid warnings. Drove about 2 miles and throttle responds really well. No hesitation and lots of go, well for a 2.2 anyway.. ;D ;D
Must keep an eye on that connector though, thinking of putting some white grease around the outside to keep the moisture away.
Thanks again every body. :y

The high rev means air was being admitted somewhere, if its the throttle body then there has to be a sticking throttle or a feedback error as TB says, if there is nothing obviously wrong then live data is the only way.
Other possibility is an air leak somewhere but it would have to be fairly big one for the throttle to be unable to accommodate it and I suspect the EML would light as a result.

Hope it stays fixed.
Was wondering if the gearbox warning was tied into a crank sensor fault.....might also cause idle control problems if the control loop is getting poor quality pulses from the sensor.

Ahh...thanks for reminding me TB :y
What until you get to my age......then you carnt remember didley squat ;D

Errr, ummmm, already there on the memory front :-[

Yep hope its sorted too :y
On a 2.2......you can actually unplug the crank sensor or cam sensor.....it will struggle to start but it will and idle ok @ 600-700 rpm.....unless mine is the odd one out :-/

Was of that thought myself Matchless, will keep fingers crossed and travel in hope.
On your suggestion of an air leak i did go around the flange of the throttle body with WD to see if it changed. Trouble with Fly by wire if a connection is poor then the signal is not returned on the throttle posistion to the ECU. ;)
