Did the breathers as per the maintenance guide on here, quite easy when you have a go! Breather system appeared relatively clean but carried on anyway so I can practice for the next time.
Only problem is... There seems to be a slight hissing sound from the nearside of the plenum at idle, it's refitted correctly and all the pipes are refitted correctly (i've double checked). Now TBH I can't remember if it did this before!
The other problem is I seem to have lost 7mpg! though I have been flooring it, checking the multiram is working. Related problem? some sort of Air leak?
Help!
Thanks!

Indeed an airleak retrace your steps - its something simple. :y
Check every jubilee is tight every hose is on and every connector clicks into place.
Also check idle control valve is in tight and clean.
If you still have problems post back and we can move on from there to help you resolve..

If you find no problem with the pipes it might be th eplenum to throttle body o-rings. If you are struggling spray some carb cleaner around the area, it will soon find the air leak ;)
-
Can't check until tonight but I have got those on order from the stealer... did smear them with oil to try to get them to re-seal
-
Mmmmm I done my breathers last week, andafterwards my MPG was good around town, now mine dropped to 19, and thats driving it really gently! :o

Being the facelift with a 'droop snoot' plenum and no EGR, It doesn't have an ICV.

then that eliminates IACV ;D still got to be something simple that hasnt gone back correctly...
-
It's no good.... I'll have to leave work early!!!!
-
Yes.....check everything thta was removed....i.e.
Are all the vac pipes re-fitted
Is the brake servo pipe tightened up
Are ALL of the rubber seals present on the inlet to plenum joints.
Is the multiram working ok
-
Multi Ram seems fine, seems smooth in all levels of acceleration. The only thing I did notice when I took the plenum off was the Brake Vacuum fitting in the plenum moved, I tightened it back up but didn't overly do it as the plenum is alloy.
The hissing noise does seem to be from that area but not sure what else should I look at?
Won't be able to look at this until I get home at 9pm tonight and will then have to wait for the engine to cool..... arggghhhh

Does anyone have the part number for the six 'O' rings between the plenum and the six inlets?
May as well get some more before I take the plenum off again.... :'(
-
The part numbers are in the maintenance guide for the cleaning the breathers ;)
-
You took the plenum off? :o
If so, check the 6 large o rings underneath - they can go hard and not reseal....
-
Hopefully the stealer will have the O rings today, I did lift it again last night and flipped over some of the 'O' rings and coated them with oil again. Still the same!
All the other connections seem tight (Brake vacuum, multiram pipes, throttle - bagpipe links)
Got this afternoon off (if the O rings arrive!) so i'll take it all apart (3rd time lucky) and look again.
The post from Owen seems along similar lines and i'm wondering if when I was unbolting the throttles if I caused some damage to the rear multiram link. IMHO the Multiram seems fine though...... Maybe I need a second opinion!
Anyone close to Solihull (about 4 miles from the Town Centre?) or I could travel to you?
The 'O' rings listed in RMcB's guide are for the black breather boxes to plenum and throttle, the p/n's I was after were for the six required for plenum to inlet.
Wish I'd left the &*(&(*& plenum on now! Live and Learn I suppose!

One option might be to drive up the M42....
-
Not a problem! Would perhaps prefer to have someone watch me have a go at this and point out what i'm doing wrong rather than do this again for the third time and make it even worse!
-
must say i did my breathers yesterday i plucked up courage after so many good guys on here said how easy it was 2.5 cdx and was easy but my pipes were clear but the breathebox large pipe had plenty of crud in it but i too have a small prob its ticking over about 750 but used to be about 600 could i too have a problem but having said that it runs perfectly

Any loss of MPG?
-
When i did my breathers several weeks ago i too had a loud hissing noise but mine was coming from under the ecotec cover, and found seal 90467543 damaged as it had become hard and broke on reassembling the ecotec covers (mines in two parts),£1.16p from vauxhalls, also found out what was causing my eml to flicker, the plug to the rear multiram was actually off,i do not know how i missed that but there you go,i replaced all the seals on the ecotec cover for piece of mind, hope you manage to sort it.
-
Right! dismantled it all again and put six new 'o' rings on, carefully (is there any other way?) reassembled it all triple checking every connection and the his is still there....
As I said, the multiram seems fine so i'm at a loss.....
Maybe the hiss was always there.....?
-
Not fully checked mpg but will on next long run i used to get 31 on run 25 knocking about all in all im impressed with that as my last car ultima couldnt manage 19
-
Would say I got about the same but I think it's dropped off since I cleaned the breather system. When I heard this slight hiss I presumed I had some sort of air leak.... Not 100% convinced now.....
