The Front Top Suspention Mounts ?
I have heard that sometimes just the bearnings can go and its alot cheaper to just replace these than the whole lot.
Is It best to replace the top mounts with only new ? rather than second hand ones.
And should it be VX only or can 3rd party parts be ok
Thanks
Craig

I don't actually know about the Omega, but from experience with other cars the top strut bearing very rarely goes - it only has limited movement, which is very slow and with little lateral force - nothing like a wheel or clutch bearing. In fact the only case where I have seen these go is when the bearing was left dry (i.e. no grease) for a long time and the balls/rollers start rusting/corroding. If the bearing is not sealed (again, not sure about the Omega), see if you can uncover it in-situ, then clean it well with solvent, let it dry (or blow-dry it with compressed air), and then pack with multi-purpose grease and seal back.

Its the truss bearings your talking about. they can go alright, but usually not the ball bearings or cage but the case itself. the full weight of the car sits on them and although they turn only as far left & right as much as the steering allows they are under pressure all the time. when one goes, you hear a slight cracking from the top of the strut as you turn the wheel, you probably wont feel the feedback through the powersteering though.
Usually high milage suspensions suffer but it a once in the cars lifetime job. there should be a number on the shell of the bearing, if you can read it you can get the same spec from a 3rd party no problem.
They bearings aren't too dear to buy and always do the other side because i'll bet its not far behind, always change in pairs.
