Title: Reverse Sensor Painting
Post by: Craig_R on 05 July 2007, 19:11:52
Just got some Reverse Sensors for the car and read through the Docs that came with it and it said pick the right colour senors for your paint  :-? well these sensors are black and it does not say anything about not being able to spray them the right colour.

Is it possible to knack them by spraying them ? will the ultrasonics not pass through spray paint ?

I am going to spray them before i drill holes in my rear bumper to see if they still work.

Has anyone sprayed reverse sensors and them not work after painting ?

Craig

Yes, one of mine failed about a week after painting - it was the one I may have sprayed too much (the aerosol spat out a blob (probably didn't shake enough))

You know the score - a few light coats, should be OK.

I found the secret was to rub them first with a green pan scourer to get a good key, a few coats of colour followed by a few coats of laquer.....then I removed the paint from the rubber suspension ring on them (it just peals off)......

And exactly the advice I took successfully, with the exception of the spray 'blob' on one of them.

Ill be spraying very lightly then  :)

I did try them with two plastic bags over the sensor and it stil worked so I hope it should be ok.

I did measure with a tape measure to compare the distance between the two and the sensors were 10 cm out exactly ie it said 90cm when it was 100cm and i cant find an adjustment to change it Ah Well

Hi Guys

Sorry I don't want to hijack the thread, but which make of sensors did you use?

I found some on the web a while ago, that were recommended on the forum, but now I've got around to doing it, I can't find them. :(

I just used some cheapo ebay ones, about £20.  I had to search around a bit, as I only wanted a beeper, not a chaved up display.
