Post by: Craig_R on 08 July 2007, 19:30:56
Took Me ages But I changed the Top Mount And I still Have the other Side To Do  >:(

The Rubber Mount I took Off Seemed Ok but the Bearings looked may be iffy If i knew what i was looking for  :-[Can someone Please open their Bonnet put their hand on the top part of the front suspention the big round thing with a black cap and bounce the car and check if it has any movement in the big round thing ? I replaced mine whole top Mount Rubber and Bearings and it still has some movement. Is it the rubber Top Mount Just compressing ?
I really Need To know if this is normal On the Omega I hope I have not bought These Top Mounts and Bearing For no reason And Wated My Cash  :'( I more than Likely Find Out it the whole front Suspention will need replacing knowing my Luck At The Mo :(

Just Looked At The Two Top Mounts Together and I think the Rough rotation feel might be down to One Missing Bearing That It ONE LITTLE BALL OF STEEL, But ill not full know untill i try the new trackrod ends to see if the knock has totally gone

Hi there Craig
I’ve just been out in the works car park bouncing on the wing (got some strange looks and one offer of help) but there was no movement from the suspension top plate that I could feel or see, checked both sides. I dont know if I bounced it hard enough though.
Hope this helps
Lyn

The top cups sits proud of the turret and if you bounce it hard enough it will move....if you jack up the front the top sits back in the turret cut out.

So It is Normal to move then ? I would not say i Bounced my Car mega hard with one hand on the round thingy and one hand one the front wing

I knowtist that when the front was jacked up the round thing was very tight with no chance of movment.

It could be that the bush will bed down in time and the movement will go. Maybe that's why it's not evident on a car that hasn't had it disturbed recently.

How does the car drive now? Has the knocking gone?

I'd go and check mine but SWMBO has taken it to work due to 2 cylinder MX-5 debacle. (Now fixed, BTW)  ;D

NO Kevin its Still Bloody Knocking AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH >:( >:( >:( >:(

So With the Girl Freind in Car again moving the steering wheel back and forth and me under the car I can feel the knock big time but cant seem to find anything loose  :( but a bolt missing on part of the steering colum attaching to the rest of the trackrods and so forth
