Hello again,
I had a new windscreen fitted on Monday in preparation for the MOT (which it just passed BTW - one new tyre and a handbrake adjustment).
But I'm not sure they've fitted it correctly. I'm convinced that on the old one the rubber (neoprene?) was almost flush with the screen all round. But it now has an obvious slot down each side. This is all the more obvious since the slot disappears at the top corners, and the glass fits snugly into it along the top. Makes me think the glass ought to fit into the slot all the way around??!?
Can anyone do a quick comparison for me? I'll post some pics tonight if that's any help...

Ditto. Exact same thing. Looks like the glass should be in the outer slot where the rubber stands proud from the glass. I just thought it was normal, but it doesn't look as good as it did before replacement.

I think you'll find that it is fitted correctly. These screens are bonded into
place by folk who do this for a living every day of their lives. :)
Just checked mine for you, which hasn't been replaced, and it's the same
as yours. :y

Yes, they are fitted by people who do them every day....just like mechanics who fix cars every day and tyre fitters who fit tyres everyday.
Interestingly, the screen has a set of plastic sections which fit onto the edge of the glass, its into these that the rubber weather strip fits......sometimes the plastic gets damaged on screen removal and do you think they bother fitting new ones (which they should do!)
I will check mine this PM to see if I also have a gap but, I dont think I do.

You would think the "experts" would be able to get it right - but that's why I asked here! ;)

Just had mine replaced yesterday at RAC Windscreens i too have a raised gasket at both top corners i have just been back today to complain and they said its a common fault i said 'come on' yu having me on im not accepting it' at that they said they would order GM gaskets and refit it for me.

Well done Robert, that's exactly the thing to do REJECT it as they are never right after new glass because they don't use the original size gaskets and only GM ones will do, what is it with RAC windscreens , only ever do half a job, always had to go back and complain whenever I've used them!

You're not wrong there. SWMBO's MX-5 had one not long ago. All plastic covers on the scuttle fixing screws and the wiper nuts broken off, and stuck back in with a dob of Sikaflex. >:(
I can understand one plastic cap breaking on a job if they've got brittle over the years but to knacker them all you've got to be a total gibbon or taking no care whatsoever - or both.

This evening I have checked 4 Omega windscreens.....2 have been replaced adn two are original.
All 4 had a good seal to the body work.
All 4 have a 4-5mm space down the two sides between the seal and glass, this space is created by the plastic trim piece I mentioned earlier.
All 4 sealed fully onto the top of the screen.

If I can manage it, here are the photos. Sorry they are a bit blurry - I think the camera focussed on the reflections. I wish I had "before" images too...
Robert - mine was fitted by RAC Windscreens too. I think I'll pop along to see what they say at lunchtime - though I'm not optimistic, given that I have no evidence, and so many others seem to be the same...

I've just edited your photo with 2x red arrows, is that a gap there between these arrows if so, shouldn't be

No - no gap there cruiser. The dark line is just the reflection of the rubber I think. It's just at the top corners where it looks as though the glass rides out of the slot it sits in quite nicely along the top edge.
I scoured our car park at lunchtime, and couldn't find a single Meega to compare it with! :(

Yeah! mines the same, original GM screen.... I think the furrow is to prevent the water from blowing down the side windows when driving, directs it into the scuttle or over the roof...

As you have no gap where I put the Red Arrows then as has been said yours is correct; mine is original screen and is the same. If you're still not convinced then I could send you some photos of mine if you wish.

I watched when i had a new screen not so long ago......im pretty certain the rubber surround goes on last, as they glue the windscreen in first.....yep pretty sure......coz i remember the blokey cutting the old windscreen out using a sorta knife to get under the windscreen.....so he musta removed the rubber surround first :y
