I have just taken plugs out to give them a look at properly and have found that the 2nd on the left had oil on the outside of it.
Does this mean the cam gasket has gone?
Also when I was in the garage getting price of other parts I was told that the car will never be the same is that right?
I dont want to go spending a lot as alread getting earach from wife >:( over car not working more than it has been on the road.

What cobblers! Change the gaskets, clean the breathers, check the ignition leads for damage from the oil and it'll be fine.
I the garage are saying it'll never be the same again it's probably a reflection of the mess they'd make doing the job!

agree with Kevin wholeheartedly. Some tlc, patience and it will be fine. No isgnificant issues with the symptoms you are describing that the clean up and gaskets wont fix :y

Do it yourself, Get ONLY genuine VX gaskets though! I've had personal experience of this.... easy job, take your time, use also ONLY the BLACK sealent from VX... there are some how to's on here somewhere... if like mine and many other of the folks on here, it's all fine since done... Get the wife to have a read through here with you... put her mind at rest... Nothing Ventured - Nothing GainedGO FOR IT! Loads of help on here if needed....
