I was wonder if it was possible to fit traction control to a 2000 Omega :question, it the only thing not fitted to my car and id love an excuse to whip out the dash again.

Pretty sure it's possible, remember reading a thread a bit ago. For what use it is, personally I wouldn't bother with it.. Feathering the throttle's more effective... I often turn mine off is slippy situations, it takes the drive out of drivability... However, if you want to do it for doings sake, Go For It! and best of luck...

AFAIK this was standard on V6 models - because the 4-cyl were not powerful enough to generate power slides etc - so it's probably a case of if you don't have it your car doesn't need it...
Then again I suppose it could be useful if you encounter an oil spill or something, but if mr. 14k+ posts says it can't be done, then it can't be done ::)

I've said before that I'm not impressed with the TC system because, in most situations I encounter on the road, it just bangs the throttles shut with very little finesse. It would stop a numpty from pirouetting into the bushes with a bootful of throttle on but not much of a driver aid, IMHO.
However, I had cause last weekend to drive my Omega up the side of a hill on some heathland. No road, tarmac or anything, just a grassy, heathery slope at about 1 in 3 gradient. TC was absoutely fantastic. I thought about zig zagging up this slope to reduce the gradient but decided to try and drive straight up and see how far I got. Just as I got to the point where I thought I was about to run out of traction I felt the ABS modulator start up, the slipping wheel got a bit of braking and It just cruised up. Went up just as easily as my mate's 4x4 and considerably easier than another mate's Ford Focus!
So, with a gradual loss of traction where it gets time to play with the brakes before slamming the throttle shut, It's great IMO.
A retrofit wouldn't work, just buy a V6 :y

It is possible to get a good loss of traction on a 4 pot - esp with Tunnies naff tyres ::). Its also possible to get a good spin from a tractor in the wet with naff tyres ::)
Whether or not it needs is is not the point, drivers should be more careful! If the safety functions come on (TC or ABS), you are driving beyond the capabilities of the chassis in those conditions!

Perhaps I should've have more faith in mine then on the very very soggy caravan site in Cornwall. I just unhitched when the TC light started to flash at me, & moved the 'van to the pitch on its mover. ;) I was concious of not churning up the field.
