do u need reverse lights working to pass a mot mine do not work and cant figure out how to get them to work. as have to keep gear selector in park to get car to start. :'(

No you don't need them working for an MOT. As for testing, get someone to sit in the car if need be and keep there foot on the brake while putting it in reverse. I would have thought that you only need the ignition on for the lights to work :-/

You could of course just turn the ignition on - without starting the car - & put the car in reverse!!! :y :y

What car? A 'proper' manual will have a simple reverse light switch whereas I think the reverse lights of an auto are switched via the selector switch. Without stating the obvious if it's a car that's been converted you'll need to do a little frigging of the wiring - black/white is the reverse lights wire.

Just got back from having my car MOT'd (it passed! :y) and I asked about reverse lights. Reverse lights are not MOTable.
