Did have a look if this had been covered before but could'nt find anything....
So.....my bloody mega is screaming it's nuts off and it's driving me mental...!
does'nt start screeching until it gets a bit warm....maybe five or so miles of driving, hard braking no squeal, light braking when pulling up at the lights really loud....also if i drive very slowly like in traffic and i just touch the brakes it will also squeal then.
i have recently repalced all pads (good quailty)front and back but not been in to the drums yet.
please help......i'm slowly loosing my hearing....!

Not changed any omega brakes yet, but when you did yours, did you replace the anti squeal shims correctly?
-
On fronts, pads have the springs built it - were these seated correctly? Rears have a spring plate. Any antisqueal compound/coppaslip on pad backing plates?
-
Simple....you need to file a leading and trailng chamfer to the brake pad friction material.....Vx front pads have this as standard, the rears do not (cant comment on after market stuff).
Also, ensure that the the pad backings are greased and the edges that make contact with the caliper are also greased.

yep all seated in all the right places, copper slip applied.......i'll try the filing method next......
thanks chaps

mine had new-ish delphi pads on the front, which had two problems - one being that they'd click when first braking - which I guess was the pads moving in the caliper - the other being squealing. I tried reseating, applying copper grease to the back of the pads and the guides on the caliper, no joy.
Replaced the discs and pads for genuine Vx items - both problems went away ...

Had similar noises when had mine changed last..complained to my mechanic and he told me he had used some strange make from his supplier...said he would replace under warranty with mintex pads and front discs..no noises since so expect it is after market quality problems...megas seem to work better with genuine parts..bit more coslty but less issues in long run.

Not if you get a Tradeclub card :y

I have never understood why the pads arnt supplied with leading and trailing edge chamfers (the Vx fronts have them) as its the key cause of squeal......this works also on push bike brakes....
-
Just read this with interest......coz ive got a similar prob.....tho not as bad....
Admins feel free to start this as another thread....but i thought another brake problem thread was one too many ;D
When my front brakes are hot slight squeal when brakes lightly applied....develops into a grind when pressed hard.....slow moving tho....less than 20mph.
They've been slightly sqealing for a couple of months now.....last couple of weeks grind noise has started.
ie as you get to about 20mph slight squeel starts and then at the last moment before you stop i can hear a slight grind noise
New vx pads and disk about 10k ago.
Took the pads of today (plenty of wear left on em) and sprayed generous amounts of brake cleaner on the disks and pads....put em back together and its made bog all difference :(
Gave the outside of the pads a good dose of copper grease first too
Should i try new pads next.....or is it worth getting a power sander on the pads to ruff the surface up a bit....to see if this does the trick?? :-/

and how would one obtain said card.....!!!!

You can try blagging one from dealer, not easy. Or join autobahnstormers.co.uk for £20 per year, and get one that way ;)

TD, I suspect the leading and trailing edge on your pads has worn away.....re-make it and they will be fine again.

Or you could have a crack in the pad somewhere (the friction material) I had the same problem with one of my omegas, Took the pads off and found that one of the pads had a nice crack down the face of the pad, took them back to the main dealer and they replaced them with a new set for me under warrenty, had no problem after that no grind noise or sqeal. Front pads for the omegas cost from £12 to £20 trade. Main dealer brake pads or mintex are fine and good quality.

I double check for that too :y

When I first Got My Omega I had really Loud front brakes the pads were brand new but the disks were not and this was causing the problem as the disks were scored and the pads new once the pads had worn into the shape of the score on the discs to sounds stopped.
