Hi
Just pulled into my local Vx dealers to pick up some brake pads, started car to come home and car stalled. Car will turn over but there's no lights on the dash, all the other accessories work, lights, wiper, radio etc just the dash lights are out.
I've left it with the dealers but it was at the end of the day and they we just locking up.
Any ideas what the problem could be, will I get fleeced :-(

hopefully just a fuse somewhere!! I'm guesstimating that the non-starting issue may be related to the immobiliser?
... perhaps there's a wiring fault linked to your car kit power issues and the intermittent connection is no longer intermittent ::)
I hope you didn't take it to Kings on the Medway City Estate - who couldn't find an idling fault on a car with no.4 spark plug well FULL of oil ...

Looking at the wiring diagram from the comfort of a warm dry environment (it was pi**ing down this afternoon) F15 appears to feed the instrument display, but it also does wipers and lights and other stuff but these work OK.
The other thing I was doing at the time was clipping in one of the footwell carpet clips (the engine was in tickover), I have tried to see if there is a engine cut-out anywhere in the wiring, maybe around the seat ?
No its at Greens in Rainham. I've had problems before with Kings, they charged me 2 hours labour to change a CPS on my previous Omega, I wasn't so aware of the cars problems then.

How do you know its not the CPS.......poor installation can result in premature failure...

I have no warning lights on the dash, all blank when the key is turned. On a previous CPS failure all the warning lights still came on.
But I suppose it could be CPS and something else taking the lights out.

Car had been at main dealers most of the week, they were too busy to look at it. Getting a bit pissed off being fobbed off with excuses why they couldn't look at it. So borrowed the wife's car and had look myself. As i suspected it was Fuse 15 that had blown, replaced fuse and car started straight away.
Next problem is out find out why
F15 also supplies headlamp levelling, rad fan delay relay, A/C clutch relay, rain sensor and suspension levelling compressor relay.
My money is on the compressor relay circuit, mainly due to a few reasons, one the car cut out about 30 secs plus after starting the car, which is about the time the compressor usually starts up for a few seconds. Also the level sensor is underneath the car in all weathers.
I had a look at the level sensor today and the cable feeding it was caught between the sensor and the rear suspension arm. the cable didn't look damaged but I've moved it out of the way.
For some reason the suspension had been changed on the car before I bought it to Bilstein shocks and springs. So the suspension levelling had not been connected at the back, So I'm not sure what the levelling system was actually doing ? I've now pulled the relay that activates the compressor.

Only blown the fuse once, fingers crossed its now ok, I better be ok, off to France end of the month :-)
