Title: Strange squeak

Hi all

Hope you may be able to help, I have had a new problen arise on my new car.  When travelling at low speeds I am getting a strange squeaking sound it i is not constant it happens about once or twice a second and sounds like the sound you get when a bicycle brake is touching in 1 place, any ideas?

The sound does not happen when I am braking but could it be something to do with the brakes?

It seems to have appeared since I had the car serviced yesterday as well as having a deteriorated fuel filter replaced?

I think it is coming from the passengers side front wheel area somewhere whilst my other half things she can hear it coming from the passenger side rear wheel area!!!

This can often occur with sticky handbrake shoes. Not the disc brakes,
but the shoes mounted inside the rear hubs.

Try gently touching the handbrake on whilst driving and check if the
squeak stops.

If not, jack up and check each wheel in turn, checking for disc run out
or sticking pads/ calipers. Whilst checking each wheel, also check for
any bearing play by trying to find any rocking movement in the wheel.

Could be a wheel bearing, recently had both my front ones done. The ns was the usual grinding sound, but the os one (which failed about a month later) was a sort of intermitent sqeaking noise, didnt sound like a bearing if you see what i mean?

as with the other posts check all 4 for play, or roughness when the wheel is rotated.

Hi

I have found i can replicate squeak.

While not moving if I pull the handbrake up and down I get the same squeaking sound?

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Does it disappear with a very light touch of the brake pedal?

I've had this before with pads that have developed a sharp edge which rubs on the disk. It could be that they've changed the pads at the service and they're rubbing at the edges. It may disappear as they bed in. If not, file a chamfer on the leading and trailing edges of the friction material.

Could be made worse by a warped disk or a bit of play in a wheel bearing.

I suspect I have the same problem and it's the handbrake mechanism inside the rear drums. Need to take the disc off and clean / lube the mechanism.

If only I could get my rear discs off, they seem to have welded themselves on  :o
