Title: I have an auto but want a manual
Post by: omegadan on 01 August 2007, 00:20:05
Hi ppl
Theres only 2 things I dont like about my omega,1 its an auto and 2 its a 2.2 not a 2.5,so if theres anyone here who has a manual 2.5 omega who wants an auto please let me know,my car is as follows.

omega 2.2 CDX auto 2000(W)
dark metalic red paint with grey interior
T&T till sept
tinted windows
volvo 850 T5 alloys (look nice)
she's got a towbar (was fitted 2 weeks before I got her and has only been used twice by me to move my caravan around the drive.
she had new rear springs last november
mileage reads nearly 80k but there isnt any history apart from the lease form when she was a company operation directors company car so I would assume the mileage may not be accurate
CDX so has all the toys apart from leather
she's in nice condition apart from the following and i'm being very picky here
theres a scuff on the o/s front corner of the front bumper
the n/s front door has been keyed but this and the bumper scuff were there when I got her.
theres a rattle at tickover but aparrently this is common and the sound disappears as soon as you touch the throttle.
the digital display brings up 2 faults,1 coolant level (although Ive not had to top it up since owning her)
and 2,low fluid vision,(again shows this message even when the screenwash is full so both faults are most likely sensors at fault)
and finally when you first turn the ignition on the car symbol with a spanner comes on,if it flashes the car wont start, but if you turn off, then on again she'll start, however she doesnt do this very often, maybe twice a month,I'm guessing that the cam sensor is on its way out.
so Ive been brutally honest about her,I dont want to sell her but just change her for a manual 2.5 version, dont mind if its pre-facelift but a tow bar would come it handy

Cheers
Dan

I would swap my auto for a manual at the drop of a hat.
But there arnt going to be that many manual owners who will be keen on swaping for an auto I recon! ;)

Good choice.... but you don't want a 2.5 manual, you want a 3.0 manual :D

Depends what you want ;)

2.5 is an excellent compromise between performance and economy...

Yeah guys that was the general idea,2.5 manual wouldnt be that much different economy wise than my current 2.2 auto, well thats the plan but what will probably happen is that I'll forget about economy when I get one, would absolutely love a 3.0 or an MV6 but then my better half wouldnt be happy as she love driving the auto and it was her idea about a 2.5 coz i wanted the 3 litre, all I need now is someone with a manual who preferes auto's,could be a long wait but if no ones intrested I'll just keep her as I wouldnt swap her for anything else.

cheers Dan

.. just as an aside, the fld/vision message is referring to the self-levelling sensor for the HID headlights that your facelift CDX has - check the sensors on the front offside wishbone and the one at the back (don't know exactly where that one is though  ::))

I'm the opposite - I'd love a 3.0 auto instead of the manual MV6, mainly to keep the missus quieter as an auto accelerates a bit smoother when booting it...less fun, more practical.

But since I've practically rebuilt it (disks, pads, wheels, bearings, tyres, exhaust from cats etc.) it looks like I'm stuck with it for the next year as I couldn't justify spending about 50% of the value of the car in maintenance just to punt it.

Hi guys
Cars going on evilbay tonight with a reserve of £1650 as book price for this is £1850 for a private sale in poor condition so if anyone has a 2.5 manual not far away let me know as I'll be in the market for one soon.
Cheers Dan
