Title: Remote key
Post by: philayl on 03 August 2007, 20:21:05
Hi All, I bought a key fob off Ebay as mine is starting to disintergrate internally. I took it to a garage with a tech2 to get it programmed to the car, unfortunately he said it couldn't be done as it is the wrong one, but they both look identical. Are there more than one type of fob for this design? It is the type that has two buttons and the stainless bar at the top for the key ring. If there is more than one make how do I tell them apart?

I take it your old one has a broken off battery holder.....If this is the case find someone who is good at soldering to repair it for you and it will be as good as new again ;)

Thanks for that Dazzler, I will give that a go, but as I only have the one remote fob I wanted to try and get this one to work as well.

Just a word of warning I was reading about the remotes in the handbook and it states that the battery should not be removed for any longer than 3  minutes  when changing the battery otherwise the remote will need reprogramming   :y

The car i just brought the fobs had not worked for nearly 2 years, resoldered the holders back on, in with the new battery and worked straight away :)

My original fob still works ( I stuffed a couple of pieces of paper in the back to hold the battery holder in place) I would like to have a second fob working as well, but don't know if there is more than one make of fob for my car.

Yes.

It needs to be same:
Technology (IR or RF)

Make (eg Bosch, Megamos, Delphi)

Model (with/without LED)

if you click onto QUOTE in the top right corner you will see [url][IMG] then the link of photobucket......

Have you got an account with Photobucket? if not its free, get an account then upload any photos you want to put on the Forum on there.... then when you are writing a post click insert hyperlink (which is above the smiley faces, go to photobucket copy the picture link then put it in the middle of the two [url]'s

Hope that makes sense :y

I just click the Photobucket link and when it says "copied" I just Ctrl+V and it pastes all the URL stuff on it' own. :)

Is it a seperate fob, or integrated into key? Is it RF or IR?

Thanks Loo-knee, finally sussed it out. These are the ones, the one with key ring on is the original, the other I bought off Ebay, but the garage ai took it to to be programmed on his tech2 said it is the wrong one for my car.

check the rear, difficult to read, but should be able to see Megamos or Bosch on the 'flat' bit.  Sometimes different light/angle helps to read.

Hi TheBoy, the writing on the rear is unreadable, but as you can see o nthe photo the original has Megamos written on the circuit board, also the battery holders are different, the new fob has a white holder, I can only assume this is a Bosch.
