I have a 2.0 M-reg that has decided not to want to start if it has been driven a short way, turned off and left for an hour or so. It cranks over fine but doesn't quite want to catch, after about 3 atempts it starts but with EML on. Turn off and try again and it will normally start up and run fine.
I have not had a chance to paperclip it yet, but do you think this sounds like a crank sensor on its way out or a camshaft sensor playing about????
-
cam sensor, but paperclip to confirm.

How hard are they to replace???? can't find a guide on here for it :-/
Also all the ones for sale from the Vauxhall parts specialists are a different p/n from the Trade club book but are for the right year and engine code :-/

Check the codes first.

Will do matey, just being a boy scout ;)

Code read.........92...................The Boy, spot on matey. Camshaft sensor......getting back to my earlier question if i may, how hard a job is it to change please??????
Vauxhall say the p/n in the Trade book is correct for my engine, but all the specialists say otherwise :-/
Trade book p/n- 93171450
Everyone else - 90458252
Has anyone one got access to a thingy ;) that can help solve this mystery?
-
camshaft sensor is easy to change. the one you want is part number:-93171450
to change you have to remove the black cover saying ecotec, then remove aux drive belt by socket on tensioner. then remove the cam belt cover.then using a torx socket remove the bolt holding the sensor in place. then replace sensor by reverse of this. the new sensor comes with a wiring loom aswell. cut into the existing loom and replace wire for wire. then put insulation tape around. connect sensor bk up and you'll be fine. done it bout 4 times on my 2.0l..... is it limiting st 4500rpm aswell???
the part everywhere else is trying to sell you isn't the modded sensor, and will fail quickly again!!!!! tell then you want the part number i listed for ya!!!! trust me it's right! 93171450

I MIGHT EVEN DO A GUIDE FOR CHANGING CAMSHAFT SENSOR!!!
ANYBODY WANT ME TO? IF YOU DO SAY AND I WILL WHEN I GET MY CAMERA SORTED.
-
So i take it its a Vauxhall part only then, as no one else lists that p/n 93171450.??
Also all the pics show the sensor with a plug on it with no wires :-/
All 'How to guides' are helpfull i think ;)
-
yeh it vx only part, when you get the sensor think its bout 50 inc vat, it'll come in a big box with wiring loom. they only ever show them as sensor only when you buy it u see. lol.
-
you can get pattern sensors. usually crap though.
