Title: oily rear diff
Post by: psnimv6 on 10 August 2007, 10:49:43
hello just joined the forum and what a great site this is,anyway i have owned my 3.0 mv6  (n ireland police car) since last november and what a great car it has being, one thing need looking at is a leeking rear diff seal at the drive shaft ,are all the rear diffs the same as mine has got a slip diff, why it is leaking at such low mileage is another question (34000 genuine) it only had 20400 when i bought it and was a bit oily but has got worse so i will have to look about sorting it soon, sorry do rant on a bit but is the seal the same for slip diff non slip diff?

Had the same problem a few years back on my silver elite, the rear diff seal that sits behind the prop had gone, vauxhall quoted £150,got local independent to do for £96.

Does it leak much?

Mine looks like it leaks (oil over the diff) but it never drips on the drive and the level doesn't go down. I think on long journeys a little seeps out a makes a big mess.
