thanks baron.
hi all
iv got an mv6 ex traffic car with a couple of problems
i havent got and headlight adjuster in the car as they are self levelling so i have been told and my motor to do this has gone duz anyone have any ideas where i cud get one and how much they are.
also my abs and trac light is on would anyone take a guess as to which sensor and how many have gone or wud u think that a stage 2 diagnostic would be the best way to go............
i know the cars are punishing on fuel but cud anyone tell me can the cars be superchipped.............
-
If the car is 3.0 (i.e. not 3.2) then talk to M-Tek performance about chipping , he is a member on this site. As far as I know there are no chips for the newer engines i.e. 2.6 & 3.2, maybe because it requires re-flashing the ECU instead of replacing a chip.
Not sure about your other problems, but if you are anywhere near TheBoy then he has the original Tech2 diagnostic tool - and unlike Vx dealers he actually knows how to use it, and use it well he does. But be quick because his Tech2 is about to go... :(

i understand i'm just eager to try and get it sorted so i don't have to worry as the mot is due soon

ABS/TC light on, if the speedo has stopped as well then it more than likely to be the ABS ECU. You can try and clean the n/s rear ABS sensor first to see if it helps. The only true way to be certain is via Tech 2 to see if it can talk to the ECU or not. IIRC.
-
speedo not working either but thats something i will get my mate to look at as he knows more about cars than i do many thanks

But as Dazzler says your lack of ABS TC & speedo is all the same (likely to be expensive :'() problem. ;)
-
If its a post 98 car, I reckon your ABS ecu is busted.
HIDs, expalin your problem again, its not clear...
-
abs/tc light on all the time and a mate has cleaned the rear sensors but the lights are still on and the speedo isn't working i have a price for the sensors but someone else has said that it may be the abs ecu thats gone if so where would i get another and would a brand new one from a dealer going to make me wana sell the cats lungs or the car hehehe also i'm after a black load cover if anyone has one for sale
its a 2000 model on an x

get a refurb ecu.
so, whats wrong with Hids?
-
where would i get a refurb ecu and do they have to be coded to the car
and whats hids

yes, needs to be configured for car. others have done, so should be able to recommend supplier.
HIDs - Xenons, you said you had a problem?
-
yes sorry,i havent got an inside adjuster switch aparently my headlights are self leveling ones and the motor has aparently gone because a light is on underneath the digital part of the dash i.e where the time and that are.
we have managed to adjust them manualy tonight but they aint high enough and that took soom doing im begining to regret getting this car and the mot is due in 10 days

Right, are you sure the motor has gone?
Is just one low, or both (probably hard to say now you've messed about with them)?
The usual reason is the sensors, one mounted nsf wishbone, and nsr trailing arm, often the little arm becomes detached.
-
a mate of mine went under the car last night and detached the two rear sensors and cleaned them but that didnt clear the problem of the abs/tc light on the dash he couldn't find the ones on the front but he thought that the wheel would have to be removed to get to them.
i was thinking that the abs ecu might need changing because of what some one on this sight said that it might be the fault and costly to repair which made me wonder whether i had done the right thing in getting the car in the first place
the n/s light one was very low and i mean that low that i couldn't see it and the other was about 8 ft in front of the car so he popped out the light and we detached the motor from the light and just tweeked it put it back and then turned on the lights and you could hear it working but the light wasn't moving so he did it manually and the other one too but then when i took it out in the dark to see where the lights were set at it seemed that the faster i went the n/s one seemed to go lower again but it might just have been me as i was very shattered
-
i have just suffered the same issues with my '99 elite, it was the ABS ECU.
Vaux want £285+vat for the part, it does require coding to the car, the TC light stays on until it has been recoded.
The ECU also comes with part of the ABS unit, it is fairlt complex piece of kit.
You can get the refurbed, not sure of cost.
My total bill was £25.......i have a warranty with the AA and they picked up the other £435 :o
-
i have just found some1 breaking a mv6 on x same as mine and i have just phoned him to try and get the abs ecu from him but he doesnt know where it is in the engine nor do i as i dont know anything about cars
who or where can u get a recon abs ecu from just incase this 1 goes belly up
-
To be honest if you re getting second hand try and get the whole ABS unit, the ECU is integral.
It is mounted in the left hand inner wing, look down and you will see all the brake pipes going into it, you cant miss it, honest.
I would imagine you will still have to get the replacement unit coded to the car, but that will only be a visit to someone who has tech 2
-
it needs to have same ident code as yours - the ecus do vary. Just change ecu (bolted to abs unit), not whole thing
-
thats wot he has said that it has a lot of pipes running from it and that sounds like thte part that he is sending me so it must be the whole unit i will find out more on monday morning when he rings me to confirm it all again
-
its an mv6 ex traffic car the same as mine only a saloon version

will this part cure the speedo not working then????????
-
will this part cure the speedo not working then????????
Speedo, speed sensitive pas, engine ecu are all feed the speed signal from abs/tc ecu
-
so would that need anything doing to it then recalabrating or anything or would it just work straight away again
-

Once ECU replaced (and coded to car!) speedo should just work, unless speedo has a seperate fault.
-
ohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
no dont say things like that plz
the mot is due nxt wk and iv been worried about finding this part not anything else
the only thing that i can say is that a couple of wks ago a friend of mine pushed something underneath i think nr the gear box and when i started the car the speedo arm flickered but didnt move after that
sorry to keep boring every1 with this subject.....
-
could be that your friend pushed the gearbox vent up again, its a small tube that allows the box to vent, mine keeps dropping down and hanging from the box, i have cable tied it now so it stays in the engine bay
As the Boy has said it should cure the prob, mine was exactly the same, i posed the question on here and the response was the same
-
how long will it take to code then?
is it only the t/c that needs coding
-

ABS/TC unit just needs telling correct config, about 10 - 15m

I had the same problem and swapped out the ECU from a same year 2.5, the speedo, ABS and TC worked straight off.
You may be lucky ;)
I still need it re-coded as it is slightly off.
When the money is in hand, I'll be visiting The Boy.
