Title: So I have bought another Omega...
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 25 September 2007, 21:14:34
In the words of the Famous McBurger.. I also said recently "no more projects". And meant it. I guess my addiction is not cured yet, because I litreally couldn't stop myself from buying this one:

1997, R registered 3.0 litre ELITE 24v Automatic in mint champagne
FULLY CERTIFIED AND WORKING SEQUENTIAL LPG CONVERSION
124, 000 miles
Perfect condition inside and out, no rust to be seen.
Black heated leather.
FULL MOT
Climate, all the usual Elite Toys

I saw this one advsertised on eBay, as head gasket failure. The only symptoms are some mayo in the header tank, so I strongly suspect oil cooler instead. Speaking to the seller, it starts on the button and runs on all 6. He also suspected oil cooler, but isn't interested in getting it fixed himeself.

I managed to negotiage a VERY good price, and he has ended the ebay listing for me. I have already sent a deposit, and will be collecting the car shortly.

I don't really need this car, I just bought it because it was a silly bargain. My only question is, what shall I do with it after I've fixed it?  :-/

I don't really want to rip off the LPG, because that would be criminal, if this car is good, and it's a certified installation.

I don't really want to sell it either  ;D

Fix it and put it in Timbuks (I haven't heard any more so I presume it's still happening) new garage, set a price that makes you a little profit and anything above that Timbuk keeps......

If I sell too many cars I will be classed as a dealer though, I don't want that, because I'm NOT one....!

would be cheeky to ask the price, but i wont deny i'm curious, however that is a stunner and you know i'm not a huge fan of prefacelifts, and that steering wheel is nice!!

i'd say repair... and keep, (even over the CDX :'()

what would be more profitable?

fix and sell? strip out LPG for CDX and sell rest of car? fix and sell and put profit towards LPG on CDX? sell CDX and fix and keep elite with LPG?

The first thing you do is remove the Irmscher steering wheel and sell it seperately!

IF I sell this car, then it would be sold complete, with new camcover gaskets, new plugs, new cambelt kit, waterpump, aux belt... it would be the dogs danglies... and I would hope to raise enough from it, to get a Pro conversion on my CDX...

Update -

I owe a big thankyou to Bumbles5, who has agreed to Markie and I use her driveway to fix the project car, before driving it home.

She lives less than 12 miles from where the project car is, so this is absolutely ideal :)

Plan is to fix it there, and should have it home by Sunday night.

If the oil cooler plate needs resealing when I get home, then so be it - it's still hugely cheaper than paying recovery costs :)
