Title: Is this terminal?
Post by: Auto Addict on 25 September 2007, 21:16:43
Mrs AA's beloved clit auto.

Will 'creep' in reverse, but not in any of the forward gears until you depress the accelerator.

Drives OK and changes gear OK.

Any ideas?

Its a Renault auto box......nuff said.

It doesn't sound right to me, I suspect it only creeps in reverse because its a lower gear.

When you select reverse you can feel it engage, but not in any of the forward gears.

Put your foot on the accelerator though, and off it goes.

To be honest, the only forum that is worth its name is this one - of course  :y

The rover one is not too bad but a bit hit and miss. The rest are abysmal and seem to be aimed at boy racers, modifying etc etc and your chances of diagnosis or mechanical assistance is limited.

In the pre-ECU era there was an adjustment to ensure that the car creeps when on plane but stops at slight incline. But this probably went away with Idle Mixture Screws and dizzys.

Don't have an answer, but if the car goes, let it be... perhaps check the ATF level to be safe.

I assume it did, but now doesnt?  :-/

If so, perhaps time to flog it, before the box goes completely and get Mrs AA a nice little corsa auto  :y

Well, it was terminal, wouldn't drive in any of the forward gears today, booked in to be reconditioned.

just a quickie , is it a conventional auto gearbox or one of those powder clutch arrangements which were all the rage at the time?
