SWMBO`s sunrrof has never worked on her cdx facelift, changed over the motors etc today and at least now have it going...easy enough job...
Think i have broken the knob that controls it as when i put it back on to the control spindle it goes up to far and doesnt move the roof..... :-/
More importantly when moving the spindle manually with a pair of pliers the roof now opens and closes in stages but doesnt seem to have any logic to it......sure theres a method of reprogramming / learning the sunroof...
Any ideas...?

Have you tried LB's reset procedure:

I've always had a weird sunroof on my car too, tried the resetting method on this site several times and it has never made any difference.
To open the sunroof I have to hold the knob in but it will only open part way, I then have to turn it and hold it in again and it will then open fully. Closing it is a bit more of a lottery with lots of random turning and holding in until it shuts fully.
I tried swapping the controller with one taken from a breakers but the sunroof didn't work at all when i put it all back together.
It's not a major problem but is something i'd like tog et sorted.

Have you tried lubricating the drive mechanism?

When closing try holding the air deflector screen down - mind your fingers !!! - if it closes OK then it may just be the deflector mechanism is sticking - this will prevent smooth movement.

well on my current miggy it too had a troublesome sunroof - having to hold in the button to close even with carrying out the "calibration" procedure in the owner's book. Initially I thought it might have been the runners but after greasing those, the problem came back again in a matter of days.
Turned out to be the grease inside the gearbox had solidified (probably through lack of use by the previous owners). So much so that when I seperated the motor from the gearbox and removed the gears that drive the brass gear that engages with the belt which moves the roof, the brass gear couldn't be turned by hand at all !!
After cleaning up and lubricating with white lithium grease, I've had no more problems with it whatsoever.
However, there's a bit of a "gotcha" ... what I found was that when reconnecting the power to the motor, it moved forwards and back again a bit ... but not the same amount - so the roof wasn't at the right level any longer.
Eventually I solved this by:
refit the motor minus its' power cable
turn the gear manually using a large screwdriver until the roof is in the correct position
remove motor
reconnect cable to motor, push button in so that it runs through its' adjustment
refit motor to sunroof
... easy when you know how ::)

I fixed this problem by cleaning the crud off the black disc in the controllor.
