Title: Headlight Settings
Post by: dbug on 06 September 2007, 23:58:44
For 1998 Elite with HIDs, can anybody clarify the position of the headlamp adjustment levers for UK use? Both up, both down, nearside up offside down etc?

What are the beam patterns like? You should be looking for   \___     \___    against a wall. If you're just getting      ____      ____    they need changing over. All I can remember is that they are opposite to each other ie 1 is up & t'other is down.

From my Handbook (TS - 1433 - A - 99) page 109.

Headlamps when driving abroad.

The assymetrical dipped beam increase the field of vision on the left hand side of the lane. When driving in countries which drive on the opposite side of the rod this cause glare for oncoming traffic.

To avoid glare, switch both dipped beams to symmtrical dipped beam

1. open bonnet

2. remove headlamp protective cover

3. Adjust lever

left hand drive vehicles

left-hand headlamp = lever down
right-hand headlamp = lever up

right hand drive vehicle

left-hand headlamp = lever up
right-hand headlamp = lever down

4. Check light/dark limits of dipped beam eg in front of a wall

Horizantal = symmetrical
Angled Upwards = Asymmetrical

5. Mount headlamp cap and close.

Thats all I do pre-France .. and set to opposite settings when back to UK. Its a tad tight on the battery side as I have big hands, but I do this at the port side whilst waiting for the ferry .. takes les than 5 mins in total !

@hotel21

Nice "howto" building there ...  do you want scans of the pictures in the handbook that go with the stuff I just quoted ?? Not sure how good I can get them as they are fairly small pictures .. but willing to try if you wish.
