Now that our Nanny state has decided that having a cigarette in the car constitutes a distraction and could result in a "Driving Without Due Care" penalty, rumour has it that our beloved government is now focusing on other distractions.
Accordingly, in the near future, the following will be banned:
1) Attractive girls in mini-skirts. A severe distraction. Any female who is deemed "top totty" will need to wear a gas mask and ankle-length skirt.
2) The carriage of any children under 16 years. The non-stop questions and bickering are clearly a distraction and accordingly all children will need be to be securely fastened in a sound-proof roof box.
3) All large advertising hoardings, especially those that move and those that feature top totty (see 1) above.
Has anyone heard of anything else that is under consideration? ;)
3) All commercials on radio. The desire to thump the unit when an irritating advertisement comes on is now deemed an distraction

Mr Fitzpatrick told BBC News: ......"If you're lighting up with one hand and have a fag in the other hand then obviously you've not got any hands on the wheel.
How the f*** does he think you smoke a cig? I used to light a cig with one hand while the cig was in my mouth!! That left one hand on the wheel!!! Beside I used to manage to hold the wheel or change gear with the same hand as the cig. I'm with Nickbat!

I think the point is that if you have an accident and the act of smoking is a contributary cause - you will get clobbered for it.
Dropping one on leg, or disracted while setting one on fire, you hit another car - you get done for the smoking.
As to annoying adverts - ban them!

Gotta agree with you there. rather government tos*ers and PC idiots aren't going to allow you to do sod all soon. I suppose they'll soon be classing picking one's nose while driving as an offence of driving without due care and attention. >:( If they class driving with one hand as dangerous, how the break do they think you're supposed to change gear or adjust controls - lighting up a ciggie is no different.

Fancy expecting a minister to have sufficient common sense to figure out how to light a cigarette!

As a smoker, I agree, you should not smoke and drive at the same time.
In fact, I never smoke in my car/house, leaves an unpleasent smell, apart from staining everything with nicotine.
