I'm not sure, but I think I might have an exhaust or more probably a manifold blow on the drivers side bank (right?)
Only hear it really when under load or with a cold engine. It's not a constant sound but more like 2 -3 bursts of noise a second when idling at 500 rpm. My guess is either a failed gasket or a cracked muffin hold (term used by old GF!)
There is a heat shield over the top of the manifold so can't see anything and i can't get the bolts off to look underneath it, and there is nothing i can see or feel from under the car.
Is it this or the other side that is a right bar-steward to remove the manifold from?
Either way it looks to be a right pig to strip down, and I'm not even sure this is where the noise is coming from. Could it be one of those strange breather box thingys bolted to the back of the block? What do they do?

It is a known failure point.
Do first check to make sure the EGR corrugated pipe is ok and the manifold to front pipe nuts are tight.
Drivers side is not so bad to do though.....quite a bit of stripping down to do.
I did one at the weekend and it was 4 hours work but, that included re-sealing the oil cooler plate etc as well.

I've replaced the gasket on mine and have a spare manifold I can show you the failure point on.
I could never pinpoint the fault until I physically removed the manifold.
I think my passenger side is blowing a bit now.....

So applying the time formula:-
Mark'sDTM time x 2 +50% = 12 hours for mere flesh and lots of dripping blood mortals. ;D

It took me all day....
Then I failed on the passenger side - a stud nut rounded off.

Tell me about it. Think I'll be doing a bit of mini grinding this weekend. :(
