Title: Rust on Facelifts?
Post by: edwardmickey on 13 September 2007, 22:12:21
I know the original Omegas seemed to suffer from corrosion on door panels.  Are the facelifts also prone to this?  I seem to recall problems starting when the cars hit six years or so....

My facelift is getting close to this - but so far, no obvious signs....   :P

Looking at the omega book there is a ten year perferation warrenty on the panels, I would imagine only if the servicing was up to date and it had been checked each service.

Bottom of the rear arch, when you open the door is the one to watch, it starts behind the rubber trim

Paint warranty checks are not included in most services so if you don't have the relevent stamps they are not liable to cover any damage.

Just had the rear door bottom and tailgate done on a 5 year old car and was informed that the door had been done previously for what looked like rust damage and I bought it a 18 months old :o.

Vauxhall Body Warranty - Not worth the paper it's printed on  :y

So far, not too bad - a tiny bubble under the paint in the bottom half of rear door (middle of panel  :-? ) A tiny bubble under the rear griffin badge (black estate). Nothing on the '03 plate, yet  :-X

The arches on these new ones seem to be a little better.

Speak as you find, I took the DTI in several months ago and had the area near the petrol cap done under the paint warranty, in fairness it was me who did the damage with the pump handle. I suppose it depends on which Vx dealer deals with it.

Mine has gone there as well, moved the rubber away, cleaned area and touched in with a rattle can rematch paint mix. I would think that if you can keep an eye on the area behind the  rubber seal and keep it mud free it should last.

On the warranty question, Vauxhall are no better at or worse than others in this respect. Had a 3 year old Renault that was back and forth with paint probs. Eventually sent it to the scrap yard at only 5 years old. What a waste of money. Still had another 3 years on the body work warranty!!

Noticed a tiny spot on one of the door hinges and just treated the edge of the bonnet where it ends behind the grille (can't see it with bonnet closed, have to lift bonnet up and look up!
