Hi peeps. I have checked the FAQ re this to no avail. I'm meant to be up in 4 hours and have just gone out to my car for the second time to reset the alarm.
Tonight is the first time i have had this. I reset it once and thought that my empty oil container had fallen over and set it off from inside, so i removed it and anything else loose.
Its gone off again; Horn, The higher pitched squeling thing, and the indicators... so i run out - nothing there just a few curtains twitching looking at me in my dressing gown.
So i have now hit the switch on the dash with the bloke running away picture, and touch wood, its been twenty mins now and peace....
Any ideas what the fault might be? Not washed it, not fiddled with any switches etc... Have done nothing different.
Cheers, a tired Pad

could be bonnet switch these sometime play up :y :y :y

Howdoo Pad.
Normal culprit is the under bonnet switch, normally bolted to the passenger side inner wing, near to the oil filler hole if you have a V6. It can get pushed out of alignment if you are not carefull.
Quick fix is a couple of cable ties to hold the switch down, then suss it out in the morning.
hope this helps.

edit - Geoff beat me, the bandit, but I suggested a fix as well, not just to ID the fault!! ;D ;D

Also, if not that, the batteries on power sounder failing. This can be unplugged until you can sort it out if that helps...
-
Its easier to unplug the bonnet switch.....it has the same effect.

Thanks guys, i will try the grease on the end trick and see that it lands where it should - on the flat part. Like i say its strange cos i've not lifted the bonnet for a few weeks, and its just happened. :-/

power sounder batteries. they, batterys are getting scarcer than hens teeth to buy - replacement powersounder about £50

Might be a stupid reply but mine did it for a few days till i found a moth in the car squashed it an no more alarm going off
-
Mine went off once at around 2am one Sunday morning. I was on a packed caravan site up in North Yorkshire, I don't think I was very popular having probably woke up all those around me. I guessed it could have been something like a rabbit (if they can get up there) or a large bird on the bonnet. Or of course someone shaking the car for the hell of it, who knows but it's never gone off again.

Hi Pad
Mines been playing up in the same sort of way, but the biggest worry is, I can't turn it off!! (I'm popular)
It won't turn off with the key or even if i put the key in the ignition and it even went off while travelling at 50mph - very un-nerving

I've had the same problem for about 6 months and, most annoyingly, so has the wife's Astra. I have changed the car battery, not the sounder (I didn't know it had one) and this hasn't made any difference. Incidentally, the battery really did need changing. The only difference to the car is that I had a tow bar fitted. Perhaps the electrics made a difference?
Anyway, you are not alone with this problem and I really understand the embarrasment of having to go out in the middle of the night. It also means that I have had to start wearing pyjamas again >:(

Hi
I had this happen a couple of times. My auto electrician found a couple of corroded joints and cleaned them up. It hasn't happenned since. £30 well spent.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the alarm from the sounder and hazards? :-/
-
hello mate
the sounder is under the scuttle on the left looking into the engine bay from the front of the car.
you have to take the wipers off 13mm nut under the covers then hide the swear box and get some new plasters and remove the scuttle. the sounder is the thing that looks like a car horn. the plug on it is a small thing with a clip on it. take the plug off and it will stop it sounding.
Just done mine, took me about 45 mins if you take off the times i kept coming in to check on lewis hamiltons amazing first win :y
Good luck

i had the same problems mine was down to the sensor built in the rear quater window that was a pain in the arse :)
-
Hello mate, i've got a 2.2 CD on a 'Y' & earlier this year i had pretty much similar problem. The alarm would go off at least once or twice after locking the car, usually about 10 mins later. I took mine to an independent vauxhall specialist. (Apart from the main dealer, they were the only ones with the right equipment to read the fault codes.) I think it was £60.00 to get a new power sounder from main dealer. Had no probs since. ;)

i have also had the annoying alarm going off in the early hours
i now press the "running man" button on the console before i get out of my car and lock it up, and for the last 5 months, it hasnt gone off once!
have i cured it? lol

the button you press inside the car disables the ultra sonic sensors so if you leave a dog or kids in car it doesnt set the alarm off !! mabye they are faulty/dirty 8-)
