At my Grandparents today, and spotted a Which? Magazine.
It was the "Car no-nonsense car guide" for cars from 1998 to present. Ohh i thought, what does it say about the megga, well i was in for a shock. This is there quick verdict:
"Bargain-basement prices don't really make up for the Omega's unreliablillity. If you want one, buy a simple low spec petrol or diesel - there is less to go wrong."
Well i thought, thats bull!!
So i read on, i was in for another shock at the so called engines and bhp figures, according to Which? the engines are:
2.0, 2.4, 2.5, 2.8, 2.9 and.... wait for it.............. a 2.4 BIO FUEL!!!!!
WHAT THE F*** ARE THEY ON ABOUT!!! WHAT A RUBBISH MAG UTTER UTTER CRAP!!!
And weak points they point out are, cooling system, exhaust!!!
Good mind to right them a strong e-mail to get their bloody facts right before printing. I'd like them to show me were to buy a 2.4 BIO Fuel Megga! >:( >:(
Which? Magazine are w*nkers!

You sure it wasnt Volvo you were reading Tunnie :-/
Not sure about all the engine sizes but pretty sure Volvo do a 2.4 dual fuel.
Both start with a V ;D

by the way this is the 2006/2007 guide.... and an Omega for 12 grand?? - Blimey!
-
so they reckon 200bhp from a 2.4 (no standard petrol Omega is blown), and still have any torque to move 1.7 tonnes.
Trouble is, Which is respected, and will be believed...

Looks like somebody at Which has been suffering from copy & paste syndrome to me, or just simple stupidity

Yup, although i am pissed off at there crap guide to the Omega. Just relised if people read this, they won't want one! It will keep the prices down, and more for us! :)

Which is rubbish, my best VCR got 4 stars for picture quality whereas the specialist press gave it 6 out of 5.
BTW it is a Sony Super Beta

You are mistaken Martin - being Sony, it should have had a minus mark >:(

Nope Sony VCRs were far and away the best on the market for quite a few years I think 1990 is when they gave up.
I use a 1982 portable for capturing but the 1989 super deck is rarely used to preserve it

'Which?' magazine may have got their spec wrong, but I have been following their car reliability surveys for a few yaers now, what they do is send questioneers to readers regarding what they had problems with in the car and what they liked/hated about it. Based on that, they create their ratings (i.e. they don't pretend to actually test drive the cars).
So in fairness these are the dry facts, new Omega buyers were reporting a higher-than-average problems with their new car (I would have reported that my oil-cooler went while the car was still under warranty, yet nothing ever went wrong with my wife's 8-years old Toyota...).
I don't think 'Which?' are to blame for these results... Although they did obviously get the spec wrong as I said.
-
The other point to make is, if 10 Omega owners reply, and 2 report faults that is a 20% failure rate, whereas, if 100 Toyota owners reply, and 10 report faults, that is only a 10% failure rate.

IMO Which? have always slagged Vauxhall just like the old Top Gear when it was a proper car programme.
I agree that their surveys are generally rubbish. They slated a Panasonic VCR which I have found to be the best deck around. Indeed I have five of them. They also slated a Bosch dishwasher which was given low marks for reliability etc. We have the same model and it has proved to be totally fine.
In their latest report about Video Cameras they spoke, frankly, a load of rubbish.
To sum up, generally whatever Which? say take with a pinch of salt!

Thats kinda odd, when up to recently, Bosch made most dishwashers, and resold/rebadged their models for other 'manufacturers' to resell.

My bosch dishwasher....10 years old now and 'touch wood' still going fine, in fact its on now, doing yesterdays dishes :-[
My Bosch washing machine again 10 years old is the same.....except last year i changed the water pump....part cost about £25.....so carnt be bad 8-)
Funny how i can get stuck in and change a water pump on a washing machine, but when it comes to cars i take it to the garage :-?
-
Our washing machine is 16 years old and has never had any mechanical parts replaced.
We just feed him and give him money. ;D

Be best to make him redundant and buy a machine......cheaper in the long run ;D
