done a paper clip test on my work mates car. it came up with 10.10.10.1

It doesn't seem to correspond to any published code for any model (yes, I'm sad and I checked them all) Perhaps you misread the flashes, its very easy to do.  What model and year is your friends car, it might help someone figure it out for you ;)
